Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Top of the Pops may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s and 2 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Moef Ga Ga

[edit]

Dear Wantley, You might find this Commons Category interesting. But perhaps you've seen all photographs already. Vysotsky (talk) 09:05, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Vysotsky, viewing your uploads with interest and will update where I know something for sure. If you manage to find anything on the GoJos or Pan's People please let me know...Wantley (talk) 09:46, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure. Much better photographs from Moef Ga Ga recordings can be found here, but most interesting ones can not be transferred to Commons due to copyright reasons. I can however upload this one to Commons, if you are interested. Vysotsky (talk) 11:10, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Pan's People: two more here, but they are almost identical to the 3rd, already in Commons. Vysotsky (talk) 11:12, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your selected removal of crucial facts

[edit]

On "Colony of Virginia" you removed the following cited information

"While the southern frontier established by this treaty (south of the James) remained in force for over half a century, the York river line on the north barely held 3 years before colonists began moving into the two more northerly peninsulae, encountering competition from the local tribes. Deeds of sale by the weroances exist for some, but not all of the areas in this region."

This is not only well known and accurate, it was cited to Helen Rountree, the most reliable authority. You gave no pretext or motive for whitewashing this crucial info, so I expect you to restore it. 172.56.34.254 (talk) 10:32, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Pan's People

Dear Wantley, You might find this Commons category interesting. The source has 13 pictures more. Best regards, Vysotsky (talk) 20:19, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Vysotsky Wantley (talk) 21:17, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One (related image?) more (latest, I guess): Girls with Stens. Vysotsky (talk) 22:39, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Vysotsky - I'm not sure the sten gun/car pictures feature the Beat Girls - I don't recognise any of them, though the line up was always fluid. Wantley (talk) 07:19, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
They seem to be part of the group in this photo (in the windows!). Vysotsky (talk) 07:47, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've never managed to match the women in the car with the (undoubted) Beat Girls dancing with Love Affair/Manfred Mann (you get a very good look at the Beat Girls in the Love affair youtube vid, with Sten Guns again), so I'm not sure they are actually Beat Girls. But I'll have a closer look at the available pictures. Also your caption mentions Manfred Mann - I can't recognise any band members in that picture or any others with the car. I'm guessing the car was used in another performance Wantley (talk) 09:06, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you're right. The captions were taken from the original source (Dutch National Archives), who sometimes just use one caption for several photos from the same scene (in this case: the dance with Manfred Mann five minutes earlier). Vysotsky (talk) 20:49, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Vysotsky. It looks like 'Pistolen Paultje' and the car were a regular feature on Moef Ga Ga, I guess his piece on the show used the leather jackets and the guns, where their use makes sense; then the jackets and guns were also used by the Beat Girls for one of their performances as they were available. The young people in the car (just realised they are all women) look maybe too much the part to be just crew or passers by, so I guess they were actresses. Football

[edit]

Different sources offer alternative dates for club foundation dates, and therefore given dates can vary. Reasons for differentiation include:

  • Clubs can form from informal teams; clubs may include this informal period as part of their history. Examples are Notts County, resulting in dates of 1862 and 1864 being given in different sources, and West Bromwich Albion with dates of 1878 and 1879.
  • Clubs can form from a merger of two clubs with the date of one of the origin clubs being used as the foundation date; an example is Watford FC which underwent a merger in 1898, with one of the merged clubs being founded in 1881. In contrast other clubs use the date of merger, for example Rotherham United, with the club giving its formation date as 1925 although one of its founder clubs dates from 1870.
  • Some clubs were wound up (for example Stoke in 1908), with a present club claiming themselves as the continuation of the previous club.
  • Historicity - some dates are based on non-contemporary accounts (for example Chesterfield FC with the 1867 date based on much later accounts), or on newspaper reports where the direct connection to modern day clubs is not established.
