Additional tips

[edit]

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

Unspecified source for Image:Sunofficial.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sunofficial.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 15:55, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Charlie Mine8.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Charlie Mine8.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:06, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Copyrighted Pictures

[edit]

please do not repost copyrighted pictures that have been deleted by IfD. see Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 August 26 Agathoclea 14:25, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:USA-E-Supreme-p176a.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 16:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your image uploads

[edit]

Hi. Please stop uploading images until you have a thorough understanding of Wikipedia:Image use policy. Most images found on the web cannot be used here, and many of the images you have uploaded will be deleted. Please ask for assistance in determining proper sourcing and licensing information, and keep in mind that you should never upload a poorly-sourced image without proper authorship and copyright holder information, or upload an unfreely licensed image to replace a freely licensed one. If you continue to upload problematic images, this account may need to be blocked. Thanks for understanding. Jkelly 20:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Use the upload a new file feature, dont replace gneric named files – it is very rude. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 16:52, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i wont repeat my self again, i will make a report next time. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 17:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because its really rude to upload a file under a new name when theres an existing one as you can use teh "Upoload a new file feature.." – As when you upload a new file under a new name the old oen is "orpahned" and gets deleted about a week later, this leaves a redmark in the uploaders upload log, so always use "Upload a new version" on the image page (scroll down its below the file history.) thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 17:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lost episode list

[edit]

Besides the boone/shannon flashback thing, on which nobody seems to agree with you, it has also been documented that there will be 16 more episodes, not 17. Quit reverting on this. --Milo H Minderbinder 23:31, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the diff: [1]. Instead of making the change, you reverted, which also put back in two other mistakes. As for the Boone/Shannon issue, just read Talk:List of Lost episodes#Hearts and Minds where there are three people who disagree with you and none who agree. If there isn't consensus, don't make the change. Also, I should warn you that you've made three reverts to the article, if you make a fourth in a 24 hour period you will violate the three revert rule and can be blocked from editing. Details are at WP:3RR. And "what's your problem" isn't very civil. --Milo H Minderbinder 23:49, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd encourage you to read Talk:List of Lost episodes#Hearts and Minds. Articles should only be edited by consensus, and I don't see a single person who agrees with you. --Milo H Minderbinder 17:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why you keep making that edit, it seems pretty futile since consensus disagrees with you and reverts it within minutes. --Milo H Minderbinder 13:32, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Katemoss22.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Katemoss22.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kristincharlotte.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Abu Badali 16:08, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Mischabartontrl2.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mischabartontrl2.JPG.

Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 00:26, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image:Mischabartontrl2.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mischabartontrl2.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Yamla 00:26, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked for 24 hours for continuing to violate Wikipedia's image copyright and fair-use policies after numerous warnings. Image tagging for Image:Mischabartontrl.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mischabartontrl.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Image:Katelost.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Katelost.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. -- Ned Scott 03:30, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of File:Season2-ana.jpg

[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Season2-ana.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

recreated deleted image, same file as File:Anamich.jpg that was deleted in an IfD, Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 November 27#Image:Anamich.jpg

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Image:Season2-ana.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ned Scott 03:36, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. -- Wikipedical 20:34, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"minor" edits

[edit]

Please don't mark stuff like this as minor. It's basically edit warring without comment and it's a stretch to call it a minor edit.--Isotope23 19:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

I've blocked you for 48 hours for edit warring. Please don't blindly revert changes and threaten to keep reverting as you did at List of Lost episodes. Use article talkpages to discuss changes.--Isotope23 14:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vozas, your first action back is to continue the edit war at List of Lost episodes for which you were blocked. This is starting to look like you want to make a WP:POINT. --Milo H Minderbinder 23:18, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than discuss changes, you've apparently decided to continue this slow moving edit war without any sort of comment or discussion ([2], [3]) As I said before, this is not helpful and the fact that you've returned to this behavior as soon as your previous block ended indicates to me that you are more interested in making a WP:POINT than you are in having a discussion to improve the entries in question. I've reblocked you for 1 week. Take this time to consider how best to have a worthwhile discussion with other editors about these articles when you return.--Isotope23 16:05, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, your first action upon returning from your prior block was to resume your edit war. You have now been blocked for one month. Any further evidence of this will probably result in a permanent block. Your violations of WP:POINT are clearly deliberate attempts to harm the Wikipedia and we will not tolerate this. --Yamla 17:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Kirsten cohen.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kirsten cohen.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. although i still believe the question should be discussed instead of blocking me, when everyone knows that i'm not the only one who thinks that shannon is featured, i give up, since you obviously don't want to discuss. anyway, i'd still like to be an editor

I agree it should have been discussed. It was your choice to continue the edit war, and your choice which lead to this current block. action-consequence. --pgk 17:34, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's ridiculous to insist that it wasn't discussed or that editors don't want to discuss, there have been multiple lengthy discussions on multiple pages, most recently at Talk:Characters of Lost#Flashback characters. Vozas, you obviously don't agree with the consensus that came from the discussion as evidenced by your ignoring of it and revert warring. But it's dishonest to insist that it wasn't discussed. --Minderbinder 17:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Salazar on time45.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Salazar on time45.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
