[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username (VoteJagoffForMayor) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is promotional, which violates WP:USERNAME. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Slon02 (talk) 23:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional? you should google "jagoff"... im not promoting anyone. VoteJagoffForMayor (talk) 23:07, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok. Sorry, your username is fine then. --Slon02 (talk) 23:08, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok no need to apologize. VoteJagoffForMayor (talk) 23:09, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not fine. It's a vulgarism, offensive in American English, and I have posted it in the appropriate page. If they decide it's no big deal, then so be it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots04:08, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am leaning toward agreeing with Bugs. I also note that your username resembles a facebook account by a similar name... a facebook account which presents a very non-NPOV argument. While all your edits here seem productive and neutral, I am concerned that the use of the same name could be construed as an attempt to support your facebook cause. Would you be willing to request a name change?  7  06:29, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To continue the lynch mob from AN/I, Yes, interesting... about as interesting as watching paint dry. And about as dangerous. To put people's paranoia to rest, I've been productively editing Wiki for the greater part of the last 5 years as an IP, this is my first attempt to register an account. As anyone can see from my edits, I'm hardly a POV pusher or a vandal. No, I won't share my previous IP addresses edits as I have no desire to out myself.
I must say that my main concern here was in seeing Wikipedia's policies and guidelines enforced evenly and fairly. Why my simple note that Fat Man had another account that was blocked and was continuing to troll resulted in attacks on me (terse complains on my talk page from Bugs, the deletion of my userpage citing "vandalism" (when it simply consisted of a one-line sentence explaining that Jagoff is a noun roughly equivalent to wanker)... I can see why established editors are leaving Wikipedia and new editors are quitting shortly after joining.
The fact is, Fat Man was trolling you and has done so in the past, but does it with impunity because he's one of the good ol boys from Wikipedia Review. I know several of you are socks of previously blocked and/or banned users. So, why does Wikipedia look the other way? Because some of the same people are the ones in positions of power. There's a reason people call Wikipedia an MMORPG. Everyone can troll here and then go to WR and have a good old laugh at the expense of this project. Their friends protect them and delete indefblock templates from their userpages, defend them when they repeatedly disrupt the project and then laugh about it at WR... what a joke.
I had no idea my username would be considered offensive... jagoff is a common and mild insult, very similar to "jerk". I have no idea what the facebook thing is about, I saw the phrase "Vote Jagoff For Mayor" on a flyer in a bar and thought it was funny. I was considering changing my username since 7 actually bothered to ask me without being a WP:DICK about it, but instead I think I will just abandon this account and leave Wikipedia. This account may be safely ignored or blocked as people see fit. VoteJagoffForMayor (talk) 22:16, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
