Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Vmk61. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Arnold Krupat, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm ThaddeusSholto. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Arnold Krupat, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Arnold Krupat. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 17:24, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have been removing information and references from the article, that's why it's being reverted. Articles about people must have references. ... discospinster talk 17:18, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vmk61, this is your last warning: you are editing disruptively. Maybe you don't intend to, but that's what you are doing--and you should listen to other editors' concerns. You've been reverted by three different editors now: time to stop. Drmies (talk) 17:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am so sorry. I actually don't know what I'm doing. Prof. Krupat asked me to edit this entry for him. But, since I am a former student, perhaps that's a conflict of interest? Is there some way for me to do this? If not, I'll just let him know that I could not. Thank you. Vmk61 (talk) Vmk61 (talk) 17:40, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Being a former student doesn't necessarily imply a conflict of interest; but editing at his request is a very clear conflict of interest. Please be aware that the article Arnold Krupat does not belong to him, and is not controlled by him. He and his agents (such as you) are welcome to suggest edits, using the edit request mechanism, but should not attempt to edit the article directly. Note also that requests are unlikely to be carried out unless they are supported by independent reliable sources: your or his personal knowledge or experience are not acceptable unless backed up by a published source. You could read WP:BOSS as well. Bazza (talk) 18:03, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Vkm, I think the more important thing is that you acquaint yourself with Wikipedia and what we do here. The earlier version of the article was an extensive resume with a few links; you replaced it with a more terse resume. Both were appropriate for LinkedIn; not for Wikipedia. Please look at the edits I made, and particularly this one. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 18:10, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
