A person adding content to an article based on personal knowledge or experience is are not a reliable source. The editors and readers do not know who that person is and whether they are telling the truth. Wikipedia cannot take user's word for types of edits which could be joke edits, vandalism, invasions of privacy or simply mistakes. It is especially important to avoid this in biographies of living persons. The edits must have citations. Wikipedia guideline pages also point this out.
