- @TheEagle107: thanks! And happy holidays (merry Christmas and happy new year, if you celebrate those) to you too! VR talk 17:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
Egypt's Dar al-Ifta and some Azhari scholars such as Sheikh 'Ali Gum'a and Sheikh Ahmad Karima clarified that the ruling on celebrating Christmas and the New Year is “permissible”, as it is the day of the birth of Prophet Jesus (peace and blessings of God be on him).
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to Medina and he found the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. The Prophet said, “What is this day you are fasting?” They said, “This is a great day in which Allah saved Moses and his people, and he drowned Pharaoh and his people. Moses fasted on it due to gratitude, so we also fast on it.” The Prophet said, “
We are more deserving and are closer to Moses than you.” The Prophet fasted the day of Ashura and he commanded fasting on it.— Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
Anyway, I wish you nothing but all the very best, and thanks for your understanding! 💚 — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheEagle107 (talk • contribs)

Archiving
I am not really sure that this was a good idea. (Though I am not asking you to revert your edit.) The benefit of having an automatic archiving rule is that it means that archiving decisions do not become the subject of disputes. I was introduced to archiving at Talk:Crimean Karaites/Archive 1#What a mess.
Best wishes for 2022.-- Toddy1 (talk) 12:27, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Toddy1: I thought the archiving would be uncontroversial given that the RM was endorsed by MR and it would be helpful because people won't have to scroll a lot to get to the most recent sections on the talk page. But thanks for pointing out that this could potentially create a mess, I had not considered that. I'll be more careful in the future. Best wishes for 2022 too! VR talk 17:28, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
What now? South African Name Changes
Hello VR,
I don't know what to do now. The discussion was on renamed South African cities was closed because a move review was deemed inappropriate. The discussion on the administrator's noticeboard was closed because it wasn't appropriate. The move requests closed without consensus. Almost all of my edits in the past few months were erased. I don't know what to do now. I seriously don't. I have exhausted every option that I know of. If I am not supposed to post on the Administrator's Noticeboard, submit a move review, open closed RM requests, or move the pages myself, what am I supposed to do? I am beyond confused. Where do I go? Where do I submit this? Desertambition (talk) 04:32, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Desertambition: sure, I can tell you what to do. But will you listen? VR talk 05:09, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- Some advice:
- Wikipedia is not a place for users to right great wrongs.
- Accusing people who disagree with you of being Nazis or supporters of apartheit is likely to get you an indefinite block.
- Wikipedia has lots of rules. When people make mistakes or break the rules, we tell editors by posting warning messages on their talk pages. (We even have a page of template warning messages for this.) If you react to a warning message by telling someone to never post a message on your talk page again, you are in the wrong place.

New message from TrangaBellam
You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia:ANI § Compromised Account. TrangaBellam (talk) 18:28, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- @TrangaBellam: thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I don't know much about checkusers and compromised accounts to be of much use at that discussion. I'll keep an eye out, this definitely looks like bizarre behavior.VR talk 18:32, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Brill
My library has access to almost all Brill databases. TrangaBellam (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- @TrangaBellam: I'm sooo jealous of you :).
- The first thing that comes to mind are volumes from this series. I'll shoot you an email.VR talk 22:01, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
United States sanctions
Hello VR. Do you know of any source criticizing United States sanctions? Ghazaalch (talk) 17:42, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Ghazaalch: You mean US sanctions against Iran specifically, or the concept of sanctions in general? The criticism for former should be added at Sanctions against Iran. The latter is covered at Economic sanctions#Criticism but this has room for expansion. Economic sanctions should also document the humanitarian effects of sanctions (whether negative, positive or neutral).VR talk 20:04, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you VR. I do not like to work on Economic sanctions in general so I think expanding its criticism section won't be a good option for me. I would like to concentrate on illegal and unilateral United States sanctions against other countries, so I was going to add a new section namely Criticism to United States sanctions, however, since it did not have a proper place for including the section, I thought creating a new article, Criticism of the United states sanctions, would be a better choice. What do you think? Do you know of any source criticizing unilateral United States sanctions? Ghazaalch (talk) 07:46, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Ghazaalch: I personally disagree with most "Criticism of X" articles and think they should be retitled "Perception of X" instead, so they include all views of the subject, not just the negative views. But you may find some on wikipedia who support "Criticism of X" articles. Why don't you start by creating a "draft" and I can take a look at it?VR talk 16:13, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello VR. I created the draft at User:Ghazaalch/sandbox. Would you have the time to take a look and see what else should be done? Thank you. Ghazaalch (talk) 11:55, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Would you take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Perceptions of the United States sanctions and help to improve the article? Ghazaalch (talk) 08:26, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
