"Immigrate"

I have to state this : I have never in my entire life heard anyone talk about 'immigrating' to an area e.g. if you move to America then you emigrate to America. @Briandaugherty: Are you discussing an edit that I have made? If so then please identify the article. I think that 'immigrate'is ok. Emigration is moving from somewhere, immigration is moving to somewhere, see these links:

Some Lovely Islands

Hello Verbcatcher. Thankyou for your comment. My thought in referencing the Leslie Thomas book "Some Lovely Islands" in my posting was that he does refer to a number of local identities on the islands and the anecdotes may be of interest. Harold Rubens (dates)

Shwmae, Verbcatcher. I note that you recently undid my revision of the article on Harold Rubens in respect of his dates of birth and death – citing the lack of a reference, which is fair enough. The sources I used in researching his "timeline" were multiple (and therefore a little difficult to summarize in one footnote) but I hope you will find it acceptable if I restore the dates I added last year together with a reference to the England & Wales Index of Deaths for 1989-2018, which document states he was born on 16.7.1919 and died on 29.4.2010. Other records which indicate that Rubens was born in 1919 and not in 1918 (I believe the year mentioned in the South Wales Echo article to be mistaken) are the US Census of 1940 and five passenger-list records of his international travels USA-UK-South Africa and USA-Mexico in 1947–50. -- Picapica (talk) 11:02, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Picapica: for background, there is a widespread pattern of insidious vandalism where dates are moved by one year. However, in this case I thought that it was more likely that you had a source that you had not cited. The South Wales Echo is an acceptable source, although not as reliable as the major London broadsheet newspapers. The Echo presumably looked this up somewhere. The sources you mention are all primary sources and should only be used with caution, see WP:PSTS. However Harold Rubens is a relatively uncommon name, reducing the risk of misidentification, an on balance I think it is reasonable to use the dates you have found. In cases like this I think it is best to give a footnote discussing the issue, as in Ray Milland, in addition to citing your sources. Verbcatcher (talk) 17:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Walton-on-Thames, statue on the grave of George Virtue

The Victorian Web page was my source. The statue and plinth are overgrown with brambles and the statue is covered with ivy. The ivy could be damaging it and needs to be removed. I had to battle with the brambles to get any kind of photo of the statue. I don't have a photo of the entire memorial. You can't see the inscription because of brambles.
