I can't find the instructions that would help me link from References to a Wikipedia entry. Specifically, I want to link from the References section of Southwest Minnesota State University to Joseph A. Amato, but I can't figure out how to get into the References section to do that. When I click on edit, the entries don't show up. Thanks for any help or links to where that is explained. Vease Freck (talk) 21:13, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia articles should not be used to references themselves. Citations in the Reference sections must be from external sources. I hope that answers your questions. - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ guestbook ♦ contribs 20:54, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (e/c) The references you see in may articles are inline citations meaning that the text of the reference is right next to where you see the little numbered symbols in the text, but when not in edit mode, this shows up in the references section. Thus, what you need to do is go to the part of the text where you see the reference or want to place it in order to edit an existing reference or add one. In the text, the references formatting will look something like this: <ref>reference text</ref> or <ref-name="name">reference text</ref>. You can see the entire article's text by clicking "edit this page" from the links at the top of the screen. However, please note that we never use another Wikipedia article as a reference. It may belong, however, in a see also section. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 20:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
