I think I figured out the problem. You used the notation [[\Jacob Gass]] instead of [[/Jacob Gass]]. I think that caused some confusion and resulted in the deleted entry. Hoopes (talk) 16:57, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please note the edits and changes that I have made to the entry. It still needs an appropriate WP:LEAD that provides a brief description of Gass and explains why he is noteworthy. In order to build up that case, you really need to include more information about his research and publications on topics other than just the Davenport Tablets. For example, what was his role in the development of archaeology? What were his own beliefs and attitudes to what he was excavating? What other sites and artifacts did he find and what was their importance. I don't think this article is quite ready for mainspace. While I know that you were diligent in tracking down sources and frustrated in your inability to get some of them, I think you could have gone a little farther with the information from books by McKusick and Williams. Please note that the references in this article need to be fixed so that they conform to standard Wikipedia style Hoopes (talk) 23:40, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
