Selo
[edit]Please don't remove the Wiktionary tag by yourself. Rather expand the article, if it's possible, into something more than a dictionary definition, or discuss the matter in the talk page.
Consider the situation if I were to create an article called "Colonia". A colonia ("colony"), in certain regions of Argentina (where I'm from), is a former agricultural settlement formed by immigration in the 1880s and 1890s. In my province there are like 50 towns called "Colonia XXXX" (XXXX = whatever). Yet that doesn't deserve an article as such; it should be "Agricultural colonies in Argentina" or somoething like that, if not covered sufficiently by Immigration in Argentina. Selo doesn't even have a history like that; it's just a word that means "village". Do they have some unique feature or special characteristics that differentiates them from what is commonly known as villages or towns elsewhere? See for example Wola (settlement). --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 02:03, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying. I can't speak about "colonia" because I am not familiar with the subject matter. However, it is obvious that you are not familiar with the Slavic countries especially Bulgaria to make statements like "Selo doesn't even have a history like that." To make such a statement about settlements that started at least in the 7th century is just plain ignorant. I can point to you several other articles that should not have their own articles based on your criteria but I won't because I don't want to point fingers. I personally cannot add historical information to the article Selo at this point because I am not a historian. However, I believe it deserves an article because it is a common term with cultural and historic significance spanning to the present day in much of Eastern Europe and Asia. --Vanka5 08:29, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- I believe you. That's not the point. The point is that the article should reflect that, since that's what the article is for. I've removed the "move to Wiktionary" tag. You do well not to point to other articles. Since many articles in Wikipedia are in fact very incomplete (or badly written), that wouldn't be wise. :) What I meant, really, was not that sela didn't have a history, but that the concept of selo didn't appear to have a historical significance; that is, selo seemed to be defined simply as "the Slavic word for village". I think this has been cleared now. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 10:41, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Request
[edit]Hi Vanka, Please translate the article Ayyavazhi to Bulgarian wikipedia. Thank you. - Paul Raj 20:26, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Paul Raj, I am listed to translate Bulgarian articles into English. The above request is for an article in the above direction. Depending on the article I might make an exception but I am not interested in translating the above article anyway. Thanks for your inquiry. --Vanka5 23:58, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Спиритуализмът
[edit]Hi, Vanka5! Could you translate this text for me?
Thanks! Arges 12:40, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sure. Here it goes:
Spiritualism is a religion that's main idea is the contact with the souls of the dead with the help of a medium. Modern spiritualism was established in the middle of the 19th century in the USA based on Christianity. Modern spiritualism is still accepted as Christian in the broadest sense but there are people who accepted with great enthusiasm the name "spiritualist" have nothing to do with Christianity. Marijuana Wiki
[edit]Hi there,
I see that you are a pro-Cannabis Wikipedian so I hope this will be of some interest to you.
I've started a Marijuana wiki (aka The Sticky Wiki) which I think you might be interested in. I'm hoping you can help me get started with this project. Whereas lots of articles about weed get speedy-deleted on Wikipedia, they would be totally cool over at MarijuanaWiki. But really I want the site to be more of a marijuana community than merely an encyclopedia.
To give you an example, I want to have city guides about where to score, find pot-friendly cafes, marijuana events, and what represents a good price in that city. Etc. (You can check out the featured article: "Toronto" to see what I mean). Of course, I want to see articles about the negative health effects and the drug laws in each of the countries. I also want to have grow diaries and marijuana blogs. All in all, basically more communal than encyclopedic.
I am in need of admins/moderators, and people experienced with MediaWiki to help build policy, categories, and templates, etc. If you'd be interested in helping me with this project, the URL is MarijuanaWiki
Thanks for your time and consideration. Hope to see you there!

Unblock request
[edit]Hello,
I was blocked unjustly. I have no idea why. I request to be unblocked. Here are the details I was given:
• Your IP address, which is 71.141.0.11 • The name of the blocking admin, which is NSLE • The reason you were blocked, which is: apologies to legitimate users affected, due to an ongoing harassment/legal threats problem this IP range is blocked.
Thank you! --Vanka5 20:18, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
{{unblock}}
- Unblocked, try now. --Sam Blanning(talk) 18:46, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- I tried earlier today, and it seemed to work. I just tried again but I am currently still blocked. Thanks! --Vanka5 00:27, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- This is starting to get really rediculous. I have been blocked for several days now without an explanation. By the way, I feel like I have been unblocked at one point, then blocked again without even been able to make a single contribution. It looks like a group effort to constantly block me. It's starting to piss me off. --Vanka5 03:33, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Even when I am logged in depending on where I am writing from I am either blocked or not. If I am fully unblocked it's not supposed to be like that. I am still waiting for someone to unblock me. Thank you! --Vanka5 00:16, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe try emailing NSLE and asking him to lift the range block? --Sam Blanning(talk) 10:12, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- He is on vacation, and doesn't even have an email address listed. --Vanka5 01:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's ok now, thank you! --Vanka5 08:32, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I think this new article of mine may interest you. If you have additions or suggestions to make, please do so. Currently I think it looks OK, with a few problems:
- More sources needed
- More details (deaths in custody, the nature of forced labour in 1962-89, etc.)
- My source on Belene Island indicates that the camp there continued to operate in 1954-6, while our article implies it closed for that period. We should straighten this out.
- The title may be flawed. On the one hand, the article is about a little more than just the camps. On the other hand, we probably can't yet call it "repression in Communist Bulgaria", as it hardly covers all the means of repression (secret police, censorship, etc.). Also, "the Bulgarian Gulag" might have POV issues. Let's try to sort this out, since I eventually plan similar articles for PL, HU, CZ, DDR, RO, AL, and YU. Biruitorul 04:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Article creation request

Request
[edit]HI, Vanka5, I have a question and am not sure if this is a correct place to ask or not. I have a really great friend who was born in Bulgaria. Her name is IVANCA. I am trying to have a necklace made for her with the correct Bulgarian spelling of her name on it. Can you please tell me how that would be spelled? Thank you... psmoalaska
- Can I ask what country you're in? Does she pronounce it Ivantsa or Ivanka? The answer should be pretty easy, I am just a little suprised to see a Bulgarian name spelled like that. The most common spelling would be Ivanka with a 'k'. I personally never met any Ivancas in my life. I looked it up on Google, I think it's a rare name in Bulgarian it should be spelled like Иванца, if it's the more common name Ivanka it should be spelled Иванка. Reason I asked what country you're in is if you're in a country that prefers to spell names with a 'c' that sounds like a 'k' she might have spelled it with a 'c' even though most Bulgarians would spell it with a 'k'. Hope that helps, --Vanka5 23:46, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Vanka5, Yes it is pronounced IVANKA but is spelled with a C... IVANCA, I live in Alaska, and she was adopted by a family here in the US, she also lives here in Alaska. Anyway she asked me the other day how she would find her name spelled in Bulgarian, so I wanted to suprise her with this necklace. So, with all that, please give it to me once more??? Thank you, she will be stoked...PSM0
- You should put Иванка on the necklace. Regards, --Vanka5 03:25, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi! Today I've nominated the article Ivan Alexander of Bulgaria for a featured article, believing it meets all criteria.
This is the article's third nomination (see the previous ones), and because the previous ones received relatively little attention, I'd like to invite you to voice your opinion about it, be it as a vote or a comment, on the article's nomination page.
Thanks! :) Todor→Bozhinov 16:55, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Question about Eureka Edit
[edit]My "responding to the crisis" section seems have been deleted by you. Why? Is the section too long in your opinion? Not relevant? Not suitable as encyclopedic content? Not linked? (This is fairly new, the campground has been discussed in the city council, but while our specific policies are being discussed as publicly as possible, in a town of 26000, Although the law enforcement and local government policies in Eureka have made tragic mistakes, and I've been one of their toughest critics, and was part of a suit that pushed them into this, they've bent over backwards to invite me and other severe critics to help and form policy.
- If you look closely in the history of the article you will see that I only added bg:Юрика (Калифорния) I am not sure why you are contacting me about this. Please sign your messages also. --Vanka5 19:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Cahill
[edit]Hi Vanka,
At the "People from San Francisco" listing, Bernard J.S. Cahill is in the wrong column; it should be "C", not "B", but I can't see how to edit that part of the page. Esperanto41 22:04, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Gene, I categorized him under his last name Cahill. So far he is still showing up under B but from experience I know it sometimes takes several minutes for the information to update so hopefully you should be able to see him under C sometime soon. --Vanka5 22:42, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Hallow From New York
[edit]Dear Ivan. I've found your writings about New York City Subway, in Bulgarian WIKI. I am very glad that you started this article. I will try my best to enrich it, using English text putting it though online tranlators. I did it actually.
Sorry, I do not speak Bulgarian But I speak English and Russian. For you it will be much convenient to communicate in English with me. I was in San Francisco once upon a time, I rode their trams trolleybuses, etc. I liked there very much. would be nice to enhance some articles. Currently in New York, I feel very bored seating at home after hurricane (you probably watch news) and being sick a week before it. So please, drop me a line at tramrunnerATgmailDOTcom. And we will do something together. GK tramrunner (talk) 01:32, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Women's history editathon
[edit]Hey - Sorry for the late notice, but since you have yourself tagged as living in the Bay Area, I thought you might appreciate notification that we’re having an event Saturday! It’ll be held at Hoyt Hall, an all-women's house of the Berkeley Student Cooperative from 3 to 6 pm tomorrow. The main event page is here. Anyone is welcome to show up, but we’re expecting a significant number of people to come who have literally never edited Wikipedia before. If you’re an experienced Wikipedian who would be able to provide useful help to some of the newbies, your presence would be especially appreciated (and it might be a good idea for you to show up at 2 or 2:30 instead of three. Thanks, Kevin Gorman (talk) 02:07, 6 April 2013 (UTC) I’m AWB’ing this message to all Wikipedians who have tagged themselves in the bay area. I’m sorry if the message isn’t of interest to you; feel free to delete it. I’ll be unlikely to send future messages in a similar way, but if really don’t want to receive future messages of this sort, please let me know.
Dear Bulgarian Wikipedian: if you can find something in Bulgarian that might help the article Calligraphist (artist), please help! Thanks, Drmies (talk) 03:04, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
