Hey
[edit]The only reason I haven't blocked you for resurrecting the edit war about Martina Hingis's ethnicity is that the warning against doing so was in the paragraph about her early life, and you edited the lede paragraph.
Use the talk page to discuss this. That's what it's for. Be prepared for people to disagree with you. DS (talk) 14:06, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hello!
- Thank you for your message, I really didn't see any warning. Of course, I wouldn't have edited the article if I knew that I could get into trouble for it, I don't want to be involved in a "war" by any means.
- My only question is, should I abandon this project even if there are credible sources that prove that the paternal side of her family tree is ethnic Hungarian? It just surprises me that the word "Hungarian" doesn't appear once in the whole article.
- Thanks once again! Zsovar (talk) 15:24, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- There were some very angry arguments about how reliable certain sources were. These sources were obviously pure truth, and those sources were obviously nationalistic garbage that ignored important details and misrepresented others! LIES! TRUTH! LIES! TRUTH! On and on and on. To prevent the arguments from recurring, those details are simply not included in the article, because honestly they're not relevant until such time as Ms. Hingis herself makes a statement about her ethnic origins. Okay, I understand your point. I didn't know that there was any feud at all, as ethnicity isn't a very debatable topic. Just for reference, in 2006, his father did an interview with Új Szó, a newspaper from Slovakia focused on the Hungarian minority of the country: https://ujszo.com/egeszseg/munkaja-a-jatek If you want to, you can look into it (Google Translate does a really great job converting it to English). I think it's pretty solid "evidence", but definitely not worth getting banned for a month. :) Zsovar (talk) 19:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- "This famous person is of my ethnicity, not yours" is a topic that a lot of people have been very angry about over the years, actually. It gets worse when the person has been dead for centuries. Thank you for being reasonable. DS (talk) 23:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
I definitely learned my lesson here and I hope I won't have to be warned again anytime soon. In my opinion, we can end this discussion here. Good luck with all you do for the platform! Zsovar (talk) 00:40, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
