Delhi P.Sunder Rajan is a leading violinist-vocalist of India performing South Indian Classical (carnatic) Music. He is regarded as one of the most of gifted musicians of the present day know for his breathtaking improvisations and unparalelled style of playing.
A spell bound Delhi audience were stunned by an eight-year-old lad playing the violin with the touch of a veteran. This wonder kid was none other than Sunder Rajan, acclaimed today, as one of the most gifted violin artistes of India. Coming from the lineage of the legendary flautist Saraba Sastry, Sunder was born to Parasuraman and Valambal of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, the cradle of Carnatic music. His talents were meticulously nurtured under the tutelage of the famed Violinist V. Janakiraman of New Delhi. Sunder has since been a star performer both as a soloist and an accompanist. Undoubtedly one of the most prolific performers, his talent has taken him around the world and across the length and breadth of India. Sunder has won the hearts of his innumerable fans and reputed critics have showered encomiums for his superlative concerts.
Sunder has won the recognition by premier music bodies in India and abroad in the form of many titles and prizes. He has the distinction of having been chosen as the best violinist, three years in succession, from among the top grade concerts held at Madras Music Academy. An A grade violinist, sunder Rajan has given solo performance at the National Festivals conducted by the All India Radio and National Television channels.
A household name among the learned and lay connoisseurs, Sunder?s name appears on scores of famous compact discs, audio cassettes and videos.
His latest CD Dancing strings, released in March 2002 has been received very well by the listeners and is one of the best selling albums.
Sunder Rajan has been featured as a guest in many famous Television talk shows, in India.
Sunder Rajan is also a equally gifted vocalist, who has been performing vocal concerts widely across the world.
Sunder Rajan has also been recentyl awarded a Junior Fellowship by the Department of Culture,govt.of India, for undertaking research in the field of classical music.
Sunder has trained several disciples, many of whom have been performing.
