Hello again
Again have to report mess at Flag of Antarctica. Indeed, I restored the lead section as it was before as it was neutral and NPOV. You as editor with more time here better know what to do about, promotion and pov pushing kind of hurt image of encyclopedia and I don't like it. I understand to some users wanna so hard to promote something what they like, in this case proposal for flag, but really sometimes its too much and this is not a place for that as WP:NOT. MrGogisa (talk) 00:11, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for reaching out to me, I appreciate it even though I'll admit that I'm not too excited about being roped back into Flag of Antarctica disputes. I do still agree with your concerns and I'll keep an eye out in case anything gets out of hand again.
- As of right now, I don't have too many complaints with the state of the article, but I did find that some objectionable content was reintroduced and I can see in the revision history that there's still some ongoing disagreements. It is unfortunate that for almost half a year we've had to occasionally deal with two people (potentially one person?)[a] being insistent that the article should convey to the reader that the True South flag is the most important one, even though we've had far too many talk page discussions in which all other editors agree that we shouldn't do that. Given that we've been over this in August, and again in November, and again now in January, I hope that they will eventually stop adding revisions that imply that any one flag matters more than the rest because of its use or lack thereof at research bases.
- If nothing else, it's good to see that some of the more major changes to the article were discussed at the talk page first. Even though I may not agree with all of the changes, it's a relief to see that they're being made with the agreement of multiple editors. I hope to see more of this going forward.
- Feel free to ping me again in the future if you ever have any concerns. Best wishes,
- Vanilla Wizard 💙 06:33, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
- ^ I feel I should clarify that I am not suspecting that anyone has engaged in sockpuppetry or any sanctionable actions, just that there's a reasonable amount of behavioral evidence to suggest that the two editors I'm thinking of might be the same person (the most convincing piece of evidence being that one account went inactive right as the other was registered). I think the most likely explanation is that they switched accounts to get a fresh start, and it is important to note that both accounts have only ever been used for legitimate editing purposes. No need to explore that thought further unless the inactive account wakes up and we see both of them !voting in the same place at the same time, or other illegitimate uses of multiple accounts. Just to be absolutely clear, I don't think that anyone has done anything wrong.
- Thank you very much for the prompt and detailed reply. I will also try to be around more and to keep my eyes on. Again, thank you! MrGogisa (talk) 20:30, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

Good job at the Rfc
I thought you did well at the Grayzone Rfc, both in your caution in a topic you saw as potentially contentious by raising the discussion first before making a change, then laying it out in a neutral way and opting for what you saw as the best outcome, and then carefully considering the opinions of other editors and even being swayed by them. I wish more Rfc's were like this (and this is irrespective of whether we end up on the "same side" of some Rfc question, or have different opinions about it). Good job. Mathglot (talk) 23:55, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

News
To answer the question you posed at this AFD, please see WP:PRIMARYNEWS. Most (but not all) of what appears in a newspaper is primary. Remember that Wikipedia:Secondary does not mean independent; the value that newspapers consistently offer us is their independence. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:33, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing:, note that I already referenced WP:PRIMARYNEWS in my comments in this AfD in response to an editor who erroneously believed all news is primary without analyzing any sources to see if they provide enough analysis to be considered secondary. This is not new information to me, but I appreciate the comment nonetheless. I am not the first or second editor to explain WP:PRIMARYNEWS to the user Thebiguglyalien, as other editors had to do the same at other AfD nominations, and some of their own nominations were speedily SNOW kept as they are under the false impression that "being a news story" is grounds for deletion. Vanilla Wizard 💙 22:47, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- I see where the misunderstanding comes from. You referenced the Canberry highway collision, but my extensive conversation with this editor about primary sources was in the deletion discussion for the 2023 Kericho truck crash article. That clears things up. Vanilla Wizard 💙 22:53, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Re: above
@Liz:
Hello,
Thank you for notifying me as I was technically the user that created those pages, but I say technically because I simply moved them when reviving the WikiProject and renaming it to be less wordy (if I remember correctly it used to be something like "WikiProject geopolitical entities with limited international recognition" or some mouthful like that), so I'm not really the "creator" of those pages. All that said, it would probably be good to leave relevant notices on the project talk page too.
Putting all that aside as that's not the real reason why I feel the need to reach out:
I would argue those categories meet the criteria of a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion
. The "project category" checkbox there is self-explanatory, but reading through the titles of these categories, every one of them refers to a temporary status to a page. A page needing attention to grammar can be removed from that category after the grammar is corrected, a page with incomplete B-class checklists can be removed from that category after the checklists are completed, etc. All of that is to say that, yes, by the nature of those categories, they may become empty on occasion. So to summarize, they are all "project [categories] that by [their] nature may become empty on occasion", and therefore not eligible for speedy deletion.
Thanks,
Vanilla Wizard 💙 22:19, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Vanilla Wizard,
- These categories are empty and will continue to show up on the Empty Category lists to be tagged for CSD C1 speedy deletion until they are tagged with {{emptycat}}. Can you see to that? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:49, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- I have added the {{emptycat}} template to these categories. Hopefully this will resolve the issue and prevent them from being automatically flagged for deletion in the future. Thank you for swift replies and for your understanding. Best wishes, Vanilla Wizard 💙 12:22, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Invitation
- Hello Vanilla Wizard, we need experienced volunteers.
- New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
- If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
- If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
- Cheers, and hope to see you around.

New page reviewer granted
Hi Vanilla Wizard. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:27, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Disruptive editing
Hello. This edit is WP:disruptive editing. Instead of removing the link, you should have just changed it in accordance with the current title of the page. Dovidroth (talk) 08:48, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Dovidroth: Hello, and Merry Christmas (unless you do not celebrate it, then just mentally replace "merry christmas" with "good evening" or something more appropriate).
- I respectfully disagree with your assessment that this edit was disruptive. As I outlined in the edit summary, my issue was linking to the page at all, not just using an outdated title. This is because the purpose of that article is no longer what the original author intended.
- The original author used martyrdom and terrorism synonymously, but martyrdom as a concept is much broader than that. The page was kept because martyrdom as a concept and its relation to Palestinian society is notable and worthy of an encyclopedic article, but we also reached unanimous agreement at the move discussion that the old title was simply unacceptable. The old title intended for the article to present a narrative that Palestinians glorify terrorism, as evidenced by the author also creating "Glorification of Palestinian terrorism" as a redirect to that page, which I have nominated for deletion. Per community consensus, that page will no longer be an inflammatory essay that accuses an entire nationality of glorifying terrorism. Going forward, that page is simply about the more nuanced and complex topic of martyrdom itself. The original page as the original author intended conflated martyrdom and suicide bombing as though there is no difference between the two subjects, implying if not outright stating that a martyr is necessarily a perpetrator of violence and not a victim of it. It was completely unacceptable. As such, I strongly oppose putting a link to this page in a See also section of an article about terrorism next to numerous links to other pages about politically-motivated violence. That's just not synonymous with martyrdom.
- All due respect, I am unable to find any sentence of WP:DISRUPTIVE, which you have linked to, that can describe my edit. I clearly outlined in the edit summary why I was opposed to including that link in the See also section, and I hope the additional context I have provided in this reply will further explain my reasoning.
- Best wishes,
- Vanilla Wizard 💙 02:29, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Eladkarmel: I should probably ping you as well since you undid the edit, and because you are the "original author" I keep alluding to. Simply put, the scope and purpose of that target article has changed to become more neutral and accurate. That article is about martyrdom, not Islamic terrorism. There are plenty of articles where the latter is adequately covered. The page you started is no longer one of them, or at least, it won't be one after it's cleaned up to comply with WP:NPOV and to account for the change in title and scope. It doesn't belong in a bullet-point list of pages about terrorism. If you disagree with that, don't take it up with me, take it up with all the editors that unanimously agreed to drop the words "Glorification of" from the title and all the AfD voters on both sides that pointed out the glaring POV issues. Vanilla Wizard 💙 02:47, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- For the archive: the user that initiated this talk section is now topic banned from the relevant editing area (WP:ARBPIA). Vanilla Wizard 💙 01:35, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

— Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 16:53, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 5
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited South Slavs, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Bulgarian, Slovene and Macedonian. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 18:17, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
Hello Vanilla Wizard,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

A barnstar for you!
The Barnstar of Diplomacy | |
For having a civil, productive and calm discussion about one of the most heated contemporary topics, arguably making one of the most level-headed contributions to the RfC. Also for being nice. FortunateSons (talk) 21:40, 20 April 2024 (UTC) |
- Had a hard time choosing between this and civility and went by aesthetics :) FortunateSons (talk) 21:41, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, @FortunateSons:! I truly appreciate that we were able to have a thoughtful back-and-forth discussion on a topic so divisive in an RfC where the temperature was so high. Vanilla Wizard 💙 08:30, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
