Chiral drugs and related articles
[edit]Hi Valliappan Kannappan.
I noticed your query at the Teahouse and as a result took a look at your new article about chiral drugs. I found it well written and useful, although I may make a few tweaks of my own to it. One comment: almost all drugs are chiral and your article focuses, quite reasonably, on those that have eutomers and distomers. This leads to a problem of scope and of the article's title. It is really only about a subset of all possible drugs, especially those used as racemates and where the distomer had an unwanted effect. I'm not sure what a better title for the article would be but maybe you would like to think of one?
On another topic, members of the WP:WikiProject Chemistry have recently been trying to clean up important articles that need expert attention. One of these is Stereocenter which currently is quite poor (see article and its talk page). Would you be interested in taking it on for improvement, given it is clearly in your area of expertise?
If you have anything you want to ask me about, please just comment back here: I'll be watching this page for a while. Welcome to the community of editors! Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:57, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mike Turnbull,
Thanks for your compliment and observations about my article on chiral drugs. Regarding the title I thought it is appropriate. But as now you have a different view point let me think from your angle. Regarding working on the article Stereocenter let me go through the article and get back to you. Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 14:07, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Valliappan Kannappan:, I just wanted to say how much I appreciated your article on chiral separation. Important subject, treated thoroughly, a nice article. Elemimele (talk) 10:08, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi Elemimele,
Thank you so much. You liked the article on "Chiral drugs". Today I have moved an article on "Chiral analysis". You may visit the talk page and make your observations. Another article that might interest you is on "Chiral switch". It is already there. Take a look when you find time. Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 12:13, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Valliappan Kannappan! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:16, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Penicillamine image
[edit]Hi Valliappan
I note that you nominated your file "Penicillamine enantiomers.png" for deletion. As far as I can tell, there was no need to do that as you uploaded a corrected version to Commons, overwriting the incorrect version. When that happens, it is not necessary to delete version 1 and I have commented on the deletion discussion page to say so. The naming of penicillamine isomers is a bit tricky because of sulfur taking priority in CIP conventions but as far as I can see you have got it fully correct now! Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:15, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mike, Thanks for the response. In fact I nominated the file "Penicillamine enantiomers.png" for deletion thinking the incorrect version need to be removed. Otherwise it is fine and no need to delete. Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 14:30, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure of the correct way to stop the deletion discussion but my comment there should be enough to stop any administrator from doing it, especially if you now add a comment withdrawing your request. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:06, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Sure. I withdraw my request for nomination of the file "Penicillamine enantiomers.png" for deletion. Trust this would suffice the purpose.Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 16:36, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes — but you have to make that edit on the page Commons:Deletion requests/File:Penicillamine enantiomers.png, not here! Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:48, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

- Yes. I got it wrong. I have already made the withdrawal request on the page Commons:Deletion requests/File:Penicillamine enantiomers.pngValliappan Kannappan (talk) 17:07, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Levolet
[edit]Hello there! My mother asked me whether Levolet is a trade name of Levofloxacin or not. I'm not well-versed in terms of medicine, so I'm asking you right this minute. I googled "trade names of Levofloxacin", and I opened medinda. com (or org. In a word, I don't remember exactly), so, according to the afore-mentioned site, Levolet is a trade name of Levofloxacin. I don't know whether medinda is a liable source. Could you recommend me a good source which deals with the trade names of Levofloxacin?
P. S. Anyway, could you add this trade name in the article on Levofloxacin? Роман Сергеевич Сидоров (talk) 10:29, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
