Hello, Mr. NickGibson3900. I'm still trying to figure out how to use Wikipedia, and I'm enjoying learning a lot about it. Thank you for the links and instructions as well as for the cookies. (Valfury (talk) 04:24, 27 August 2014 (UTC))
Thanks for the copy edit
[edit]Hi Valfury. As you've just shown up, I thought I'd look at your copy edit of Mushishi (film), and I was very impressed. I hope you'll stick around at the Guild of Copy Editors and enjoy it. I've inserted the word count for the article in your section of the blitz page. There's a script that will obtain the word count for you, described here (under item 6). Kind regards, --Stfg (talk) 10:22, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello Stfg. I was wondering yesterday how to get the word count; now I know. That was awesome. I plan to contribute more while I have the time. Thanks. (Valfury (talk) 04:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC))
- Hello again. One thing about the script: it doesn't count text in numbered and bulleted lists and tables. When such things are there, we just have to copy into a word processor and use its word count tool. All the best, --Stfg (talk) 08:12, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Stfg. I'll keep that in mind. I'm visiting some of the talk pages as well as the teahouse right now. There's more to learn! Regards, (Valfury (talk) 03:25, 28 August 2014 (UTC))

Dang man! For a new editor, you seem to know a lot! Wikipedia needs people like you! And people like you deserve these! Mirror Freak 12:51, 28 August 2014 (UTC) |
- Wow. I was wondering if I'm doing okay. Please let me know if I made mistakes so that I can incorporate what I learn to future articles. Thank you. (Valfury (talk) 17:03, 28 August 2014 (UTC))
I know you're new on WP, but your copyedit falls short of the bar required for a featured-article candidate; you should have taken the requester's hint (that the prose was judged "clunky" in a peer review) that the article required more work. Please either go back to it, or take your {{Done}} off the article on the requests page (see the links on our how-to page). BTW, how did you hear about the GOCE? Thanks and all the best, Miniapolis 22:19, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Also, please tag request articles with {{Working}} when you begin your copyedit. All the best, Miniapolis 22:38, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
I checked Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike, and it doesn't look like you gave it the "major copyedit" requested for a good-article nomination. Ditto for Loving You (1957 film), another article the requester specified was a GAN. You're working fast, not carefully, and that's not what copyediting is about. All the best, Miniapolis 00:59, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding the above, I'm sorry if I seemed bitey yesterday. There's a discussion of the current blitz here which may provide some context. The GOCE has had a good working relationship with a number of editors interested in promoting articles to GA and FA; I saw that relationship as jeopardized by several editors, basically panicked and you got caught in the crossfire. FWIW, Stfg thinks very highly of your work; I certainly respect his opinion, and hope you don't think the day-to-day operations of the GOCE are as nutty as the last couple days have been. I've been here almost four years; it's a fun, generally-peaceful place to work, and I hope you stick around too (we need more help!). All the best, Miniapolis 16:03, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Miniapolis. I agree; I made mistakes, but I'm learning fast. I understand your point. I was trained not to edit too much as to not sully the work of the author and change the meaning of text, but I guess I gave you guys more work instead of help. In addition, as a corporate slave, I was trained to edit fast. I apologize to all. I understand that Wikipedia has a different environment, and my experience here has been great. I will take my time in future articles that would require copy editing, and I'll be sure to have my work checked first before I proceed. Can you please suggest someone who's not too busy to mentor newbies like me? I learned about GOCE as I created my account a few days ago. A week before that, I watched a video from RSA about drive and people contributing their skills for free (they made Wikipedia an example along with Linux and Apache). Please guide me as I continue to learn more about the community and the amazing work you guys do here. Thanks, (Valfury (talk) 04:38, 2 September 2014 (UTC))

Copy editing
[edit]Hi Val. I'm terribly sorry to have taken so long to return to you. The thing I thought would take 2-3 days took two weeks instead, and was a bit draining.
Anyway, how are you getting on? Do you still want me to look through your copy editing and advise? If so, would you like to point me to one of your most recent copy edits that I could look at?
Kind regards, Simon. --Stfg (talk) 19:25, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
