Your edit to Avatar (film)
[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Avatar (film). Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 01:57, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Avatar (film). It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've removed the link from James Cameron and 3-D film as well. Please do not re-add the links, as they are not appropriate per spam guidelines. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:17, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Fan sites are normally not permissible on film articles because they are self-promotion, which Wikipedia does not encourage. Like I mentioned on the talk page for Avatar, there was only one topic posted in the forum. What would make this fan site better than the next Avatar fan site that comes along? Wikipedia is supposed to be encyclopedic and not a collection of self-advertising links. If people want to find a fan site for Avatar, they can type these keywords in Google. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:28, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
My site is not self promotion in any way it is promotion of the film. It is about freedom of information, the same as Wiki. It is non profit and is made purely to keep people in the loop when it comes to this film. It is the only central hub for Avatar. It is exaclty what should be found in an external link section. There is already a fan site on the James Cameron page. What makes this site better than another Avatar site is that there arent other Avatar sites, it has a 3D web page and it has a comprehensive collection of Cameron scripts and articles for further reading. No offence intended but it isnt for you to decided if a future site may become more valuable than mine, it is upto you to provide the Wiki readers with information available at the time. If poeple want to see a site for Avatar they should be able to see it Wikis external links. The same for the Cameron page. Uthell
- I assume good faith that you are trying to contribute to Wikipedia, but you are still trying to promote your site, which is a conflict of interest. I've reverted the fan site on James Cameron as well, as I do not have that article on my watchlist. There are many fan sites that exist on Wikipedia articles that should not exist, and they should be removed as well unless they have become prominent in the media. Your argument about having your fan site over any other existing fan sites or future fan sites is moot because there is a bias in the preference. I am not going to choose a future fan site over yours; I would revert that one as well. If you think that Avatar fans should be informed about the film, then please add that information to the Wikipedia article, making it verifiable by citing reliable sources. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:53, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
