Alas

[edit]

Dude, I am so not arguing with you, ok? I think wikipedia is getting lamer with a lot of things. One being the free/ fair-use vs non-fair-use issue. I mean, man, if anyone's pissed it's me!! I've uploaded almost a hundred logos on to wikipedia for metal bands (good ones too) and have ever so gently placed them in their corresponding articles, only to have them ripped up like a weed and deleted! I'm fuckin pissed about it! But alas, right now there's nothing I can do. Me and my comrades have argued valiantly and vehemently to have logos be kept, even if they were'nt in the name space of the musical infobox. I, myself, went to long lengths and put about 70 logos back in to the bodies of their corresponding articles. I argued "They're not in the name sapce of the infobox, right? And I see articles that have logos in the body of the article (like in the Biography/ History sections) so I'm gonna put all logos in to the bodies of articles to save them!". It went on deaf ears. All 70 logos were deleted that I had so painstakingly put back into those articles. Not to mention all the other logos I uploaded being wiped out. For now, I must wait...I must bide my time...till the time is ripe...then I will strike, I mean do nothing. But seriously, I don't think there is anything that can be done now, unfortunately. PS I'm impressed that you knew what Navnløs meant. Very impressed, indeed. Since when have you been acquainted with Norwegian? Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 21:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, incognitoish named one, I was in fact never trying to argue with you. I actually just wanted to know which new rules applied to uploading pictures. Should probably stated that a bit more clear :) Never mind, I did the hassle of reading myself up on it *sigh*. Poor (govern)mentally controlled Americans shivering in their pants to whether it's fair use or unfair abuse of copyrighted content. To my knowledge those rulings where fairly liberal, but on the other hand not me to decide for wikipedia. Very sorry to hear about you scrapped work, but unfortunately that seems to be this wiki in a nutshell: Spend 90% of effort arguing on what is appropriate or not, sabotage work and remove sweet and enlighting features. Spend 10% (or less) on actually producing/improving content. (As an example there seems to be this effort removing norwegian bands from wikipedia, e.g. Thunderbolt band article, which is one of my favorite scandinavian acts. Sad.)
Regarding me knowing what your name means, let's give you a riddle: Which town in Norway likes rock the most? Steinkjær, of course. And which island in Sweden loves heavy metal? Malmø. (lol... sorry for my sad sence of humour)
- Cheers! (User talk:Username-2008-02-19) 11:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's alright, I understand. Yeah, apparently a bunch of people got together and said "no more logos" so what with WP:CON there's nothing we can do. I'm American as well =), though many times I wish I was not. I also think that the fair use/undair use issue is ridiculous! I think we should just use what we want. I don't think anyone is gonna get pissed off and sue wikipedia just becuase there's a picture of them on there. I also get what you mean by the whole 90%/10% bit. Wikipedia's rules just don't work a good amount of the time. I did not realize Norwegian acts were being removed, I see many of them on wikipedia. Next time there is one up for AfD, tell me about it so I can help. As for your riddle I have to say I am a bit lost. You obviosly know quite a bit about the Scandinavian area. That must be how you know my name. You are either from there or just know a lot about it. It would seem that your riddle is a poke at Sweden, though =). I never understood why some of those countries' black metal bands had issues with each other. The whole Finland vs Norway thing I never understood. I think all the Scandinavian countries have great music and great metal bands (incl. great black metal bands). Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 18:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi & long time no nothing-at-all. Sorry for the late response, been quite busy as well as being bit fed up of wikipedians caring more about debating than improving content, so haven't logged in for a while. Totally agree on the ridiculousness regarding (un)fair (ab)use but if that is "concensus" then I won't debate the issue. Saves me time and energy not having to brush up and upload pictures :)
Actually, Norwegian acts weren't being removed, it seems. Just my impression at that time. Had just stumbled upon the Thunderbolt (Norwegian band) article, which your friend(?) User:Scarian had nominated for deletion, despite obvious compliance with WP:MUSIC. Ok, it's fair to remove insigniffcant entries, but when he and his peers (pears? *lol*) still argued "non-notable/fails" despite being blatantly wrong... I mean, if you hate such entries that much, put your efforts into changing WP:MUSIC criteria rather than sabotaging proper articles. At least there was some sense at last, and nomination was withdrawn. But check out Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thunderbolt (Norwegian band) - Bet there is more effort put into the debate than into the entire article! What if such energy was put into improving content. Wikipedia would be flawless & utterly complete!
Sorry about the incomprehensible jokes, I assumed you were Scandinavian (as I). The first one was a pun on Steinkjer, as "stein" = 'rock' and "kjær" (pronunciation same as "kjer") = 'found of / loving'. Same with Malmø, as "malm" = "ore" aka basis of metal, and "øy" (pronounced [ø]) = island. Username-2008-02-19 (talk) 22:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Keep up the taste in Scandinavian music! :)
I totally understand what you are saying about wikipedia! It can be so stupid! Lol, I get your joke now. I like your sense of humor. Hope we get to work more together in the future. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 19:26, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I talked to Scarian and had him remove the AfD template on Thunderbolt as that discussion is no longer going. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 23:13, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
