I too am uncertain about leaving you a message in response to an inquiry made about Half Yellow Face. This message is left by clicking on your "talk" button, then the "edit" button.
You asked about what authority I have for Half Yellow Face's death. This is based on a personal conversation with John Doerner, who was the historian at the Little Big Horn Battlefield for a number of years. He has since retired and lives in Hardin, Montana, a town close by the Battlefield. I had occasion to know him and talk to him about the battle, and particularly the Indian participants. While in the role of Chief Historian Mr. Doerner assembled personal accounts of the Indian participants of the battle from their descendants or other knowledgeable tribal members about those Indian participants, particularly the Cheyenne and Crow, since they live on reservations that surround the battlefield. This method of research was used to place Indian headstones for certain Indian participants on the battlefield, in red granite in contrast to the white headstones for the soldiers. In those contacts he built up a knowledge of reports and recollections of other historical events, and in this process he was told the information I had of Half Yellow Face's death. So the source is recollected history of Crow people provided to a person who had worked extensively with the presently living Crow Indians and who earned their trust. While this method of reference has its faults, it apparently is the only reference method that can be applied at present, and the same reference method and sources went into Mr. Doerner's actions to assist in the placing of the memorials to dead Indian participants on the Little Big Horn battlefield. I have now noted this reference source in the article. NoAmGeogSoc.
