Speedy deletion of Geovative solutions

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Geovative solutions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on on your user page, User:Ununtrium, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam and the guidelines on user pages.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page in question and leave a note on this page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calton | Talk 12:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Geovative Solutions

[edit]

This is a quickly growing company in an industry that's taking off (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_tour). Their software, GeoTours, is used all over the world as THE software for GPS tours. They are the only company offering software allowing regular people to create GPS tours. What do I need to say to "indicate the importance or significance of the subject"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ununtrium (talkcontribs) 12:46, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure you always sign a comment by adding four Tildes(~~~~).
  • Quite simple. The above line has to be embedded into that article in the one or other way. At the time of the Speedy Delete Template addition there was no information whatsoever that made the company significant. Just look at it like this: I never heard of it, and as of such i don't know why they are Notable. Make sure that you state why this particular company deserves an article. If they are the market leader in GPS tours software, that certainly makes them notable. But make sure that this is clearly stated into the article, and that the claim is Sourced Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 12:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drawing board

[edit]

Hello, Ununtrium. Thank you for your note at the drawing board. You have a reply. Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:40, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Unfortunately, there is no pre-approval process. Making things a little more difficult, there's a certain degree of subjectivity in interpreting the CSD criteria, even though there's not supposed to be. (The policy says, "These criteria are worded narrowly, so that in most cases reasonable editors will agree what does and does not meet a given criterion.") I have seen a number of articles that I felt did not qualify deleted, and we have a deletion review for examining deletions that may not have been done according to process. If this company is borderline on notability or promotion, one administrator might think you're okay and another not. Added to that, the articles for deletion process is sometimes unpredictable. In that case, the article's appropriateness is determined by consensus of whichever Wikipedians happen to participate. I don't mean to sound discouraging. For the most part, it's a good system. But I have created something in the neighborhood of 75 articles, and I still hold my breath a bit when I write a new one. :/
On the plus side, while you can't get pre-approval, you can ask for further feedback. Many editors create articles in a [Wikipedia:Userspace#How_do_I_create_a_user_subpage.3F|user subpage]], like User:Ununtrium/sandbox. Once you've completed it, you can ask other editors at a related Wikipedia:WikiProject for feedback. You can also bring it back to the drawing board. For the most part, that means asking me, but there is one other regular volunteer there, and I can ask him to take a look at yours. :) We can't guarantee that your article will not be deleted, but we can let you know if there's glaring problems.
Another option for you, if you'd like to avoid writing the article unnecessarily, is simply to bring back the sources you have. As I noted at the drawing board, you had two sources to demonstrate notability, one of which may be questionable under the definition of reliable sourcing. If you muster up a New York Times profile, it'll be a no-brainer. If you can only find more of the same sort of thing, well...the more the better. To grab a couple of lines from WP:CORP, "The depth of coverage of the subject by the source must be considered. If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources should be cited to establish notability. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability."
In my observation, articles about businesses are among the hardest to establish on Wikipedia. Quality & quantity of sourcing really is key.
Feel free to let me know at my talk page if I can offer you further information or clarify this in any way. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:01, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with User:Ununtrium. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's [[Talk:User:Ununtrium|talk page]]. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Mayalld (talk) 16:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
