Mac (Leopard) screenshot
[edit]Regarding Image:Mac OS X Leopard free.png. Thanks for finally replacing that old JPG screenshot with a PNG! I'm putting on a needed fair use template to that image, but I would like to ask you to take a slightly different screenshot, and just take these suggestions as you like. 1. Try to only have the finder in coverflow open, instead of multiple windows, because otherwise it looks cluttered. 2. It might also be nice to illustrate stacks in the screenshot. 3. If possible, it would probably be better (at least in my opinion) if you would remove some of your many personal applications, such as google earth, safari, terminal, whatever. 4. The grass background is another discussion. ;) And you might consider a different image name if you don't replace the original—it isn't really a "free" screenshot. —Althepal 00:22, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your valuable input; I will try to create several new screenshots over the next week to upload to Wikipedia Unixfanatic 01:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Alright. Just remember, these fair use images are only allowed on Wikipedia for use in articles, so all but one will eventually be deleted, unless you replace the image you upload. Althepal 01:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, I've replaced the image with something better; it illustrates the cover flow view of the Finder directly, without any hindrances. I'm also going to put it on the Mac OS X page, since they are using Leopard instead of Tiger now for their main image. It would be more appropriate to use a fair-use image. - Yes, I like this one better. There is another appearance of the old screenshot from Apple in the Mac OS X article, by the way. I'll take care of that. Althepal 17:25, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Mac OS X Leopard free.png
[edit]Image:Mac OS X Leopard free.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use disputed for Image:Mac OS X Leopard free.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mac OS X Leopard free.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:43, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Windows 7 start thumbnails.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Windows 7 start thumbnails.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:31, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Red Cube.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Red Cube.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Lavender Mist.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Lavender Mist.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
