User talk:Uberlegit
The article Oh no they didn't has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.
Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 02:27, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
What the article was missing was reliable independent sources showing this website's notability. See WP:ATTRIBUTION. Just stating that the website has 50,000 users doesn't do it. The article title is not protected -- if you can establish the notability of the site by independent sources, feel free to repost. NawlinWiki 02:54, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- It should be noted that Wikipedia is not hospitable to "Under Construction" signs. You should craft the article (in your sandbox, in a word processor, or however) before creating an article page in Wikipedia; otherwise, it is vulnerable to speedy deletion. --Orange Mike 03:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Frustration with Wikipedia
[edit]I can see your point of view, Jessi, but I hope you will reconsider. We really do have a "don't bite the newbies" policy. It's just that there is such a history of "two kids get together and build a website, and as soon as they get mentioned on their cousin's blog they create a Wikipedia article about themselves" that some of our editors are highly aggressive about deleting what appear to be incomplete or ill-thought-out "articles" that are not yet ready for the harsh light of day, or articles that seem to boil down to "well, I like it, and my buds online like it, so it's rilly notable, man!" --Orange Mike 14:06, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
