Welcome!

Hello, US Army History, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was National Museum of the United States Army‎, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! – S. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to National Museum of the United States Army does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Please explain your rationale for removal of images, etc.S. Rich (talk) 20:29, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional editing

[edit]

Your recent edits are clearly promotional, and inappropriate. Please look at WP:COI and follow its guidance. If there are copyright problems with the images, then they should be brought up on the image/Commons pages. (Thank you for providing edit summaries. They do help in understanding your rationale.) – S. Rich (talk) 14:36, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, S. Rich. Obviously, I'm new to Wikipedia. Our entry was created a few years ago by another employee and I was asked to update the page and correct out of date information. Unfortunately, I didn't see your messages etc. until today. Thank you for your explanations and I see that I was not informed on the ways of wiki. There are a few items that are no longer accurate and I'm concerned if they continue to be presented as such. The opening date mentioned in the Sec Army press release announcing the site selection was a projected date. The opening date is contingent upon fundraising and Army construction schedules and 2015 is no longer accurate. When the Sec Army made that announcement, the site went from "preferred site" to "approved site" or "selected site." Also, the renderings shown reflect an early design of the building are very old and no longer represent the structure at all. SOM is at 95% design and the building design is completely different. Last year, the Army adjusted the number of projected visitors to 750,000 per year. I know now it would have been best for me to explain as an edit comments - that makes good sense. There is inherent confusion regarding this project and the roles of the Army and The Army Historical Foundation. I'd appreciate your assistance and I hope you will message me again if you have questions about my comments above or edits I had made. I will educate my self and try my best to follow the Wiki protocol from now on. Thanks. S. Smullen US Army History (talk) 15:45, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created National Museum of the United States Army, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "US Army History", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website which relates to the entity in question, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Well, S. Smullem, obviously the username and its' usage is inappropriate. Because it is compromised in terms of passwords, I think a "WP:NEWSTART" is the way for you, as an individual user, to properly edit WP. This means that user "US Army History" gets retired one way or another. (It could mean blocking the account.) Why? WP is edited by individuals, not organizations. See WP:NOPR for more information. Until this is resolved, do not edit this article. I will revert any and all edits. Thanks.S. Rich (talk) 16:00, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I neglected to address the user issue in my previous reply. Yes, I will resolve the user issue - just hadn't gotten to that yet. I hope you received my earlier "talk" as that was also my first attempt at that feature. US Army History (talk) 20:13, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I saw your message on my talk page & I noticed that it duplicated what you have above. IMHO, the best COA is to change the "US Army History" username so that only you, an individual, has access to the new name you establish. This is IAW the no share policy above. You will find that I, and virtually all other users on WP will WP:AGF on your part. – S. Rich (talk) 20:34, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.
