This template uses a corporate logo, which is considered fair use for identification purposes. --Dschor 21:12, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It would be, if it were on an article about them. It's not. It's in a userbox. It's not being used under the fair use provision of US law. This is turning into a copyright problem. Rob Church Talk 00:55, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, use of the meta template userbox needs to end. Substitute it in. Rob Church Talk 01:00, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to removing the meta template - but I find it silly that use of a logo would be considered a copyright violation in this context, as it seems to clearly fall under the rules for fair use. Do I need to obtain explicit permission from the copyright holder in order to satisfy my fellow Wikipedians that this use is not objectionable? --Dschor 07:51, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Even then we couldn't use it unless they were willing to license it under the GFDL or a compatible license, or of course they were willing to release it into the public domain and therefore give up all rights to it... which they'd never do. JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 07:59, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
