Tyrs: I presume you were trying to revert to your edit, but were doing it one undo at a time. You can revert back to an old revision in one go by clicking on it in history, editing it, then saving it. If you do this, and there are 'good' edits in between that you need to restore (eg if the punctuation was also wrong in the older revision), explain this in your edit summary (eg 'rv 2 edits by Spadefinger, will restore edits by 123.xx', or better - 'restoring unexplained truncation of plot. Please discuss on talk page'). Note that 'undo' wouldn't have worked in this case, as the intermediate edits interfered with the ones you wanted to undo. For more detail, read WP:REVERT.

However - the page was descending into an edit war, and if you had performed a revert, you would've got a WP:3RR warning (then been blocked for a short time if you'd subsequently reverted again). You did the right thing taking this to the talk page. As WP:REVERT says, its more often used for fixing vandalism and isn't a good way to resolve a content dispute.
