Image Copyright
{{helpme}} I would like to know how to find images acceptable for upload to wikipedia and would also like to know what copyrights I should look for that are are acceptable for upload. --Tyrol5 [Talk] 02:15, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Have you looked at Wikipedia:Images? it may answer your question. Dbiel (Talk) 03:27, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- The link above should help answer most of your question. In general, any image which adds encyclopedic value to an article is the sort of image we're looking for. As for copyrights, we greatly prefer freely licensed images, such as those in the public domain, or those licensed under a Creative Commons license (but not a non-commercial one), or the GFDL (which is what Wikipedia uses for text contributions). Copyrighted images are only to be uploaded when they can meet all of the criteria listed at WP:NFCC - namely, they can't be replaced with a free image, add substantial encyclopedic value to an article, and won't affect the copyright owner's legal or financial rights in any way. When you upload an image like this, you must include a rationale which claims all of this, in addition to some other details - more information at that link.
- Those are the important bits - if you have more questions, make sure to read through the policies we've linked to, and you're always welcome to put up another helpme tag. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi,
- For medical images specifically, some guidance is available at commons:Commons:Patient images. You can always ask my opinion if you aren't sure. To find images, I use Google's image search: use "Creative Commons" "SEARCH TERM" or site:.gov "SEARCH TERM" to find creative commons or public domain images. Always check twice what the exact license is.
- see you around, --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 14:29, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! --Tyrol5 [Talk] 20:51, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Acplogo.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Acplogo.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 14:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Acplogo2.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Acplogo2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JaGatalk 00:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Formatting references
Diberri's template filler, now Wikipedia template filling makes generating cite journal, book, web etc templates easy given a PubMed ID, PubMedCentral ID, ISBN ... Some journal abstract pages (like Biomed central, BMJ, ...) give a link to the article's PubMed citation in the Right column if you already have an abstract URL - you can grab then grab the number from the Pubmed link URL. Otherwise a PubMed search can find the PMID, though it can be counterintuitive.
The Citation Bot will also populate missing fields given a DOI - and will find DOIs that the Template filler may miss. RDBrown (talk) 12:30, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

NowCommons: File:Acute-bronchitis.jpg
File:Acute-bronchitis.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Acute-bronchitis.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Acute-bronchitis.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 19:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Trivia
I am sorry that I completely misplaced my remark. Obviously it was not aimed at the title, which is perfect. It is with regard to the sentence in the "Trivia" section: "This means that there has not been exact, definite standards to define...", which I do not consider diction appropriate to a scientific article. This might seem like nitpicking, but being a retired professor of medicine, I feel, am entitled to some. Good luck in your studies. Tusbra (talk) 00:58, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Welcome, Kindred Spirit :-)
Dear Tyrol5:
Welcome! I think we have some common interests, especially if you like pulmonary malignancies. I've only been around a few weeks, but I love this place. Put me on your watchlist if you want, and lets keep in touch. I'm an EXCELLENT copy editor of any work EXCEPT my own, so if you need to use a different pair of eyes, let me know.
Lastly, I've got a couple of (mostly completed) articles I've just put up for peer review, namely combined small cell lung carcinoma and large cell lung carcinoma with rhabdoid phenotype, if you want to have a look-see.
With very best regards: Cliff L. Knickerbocker, MS (talk) 12:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
P.S. ex post facto - Why I thought you were new, I dont know. Just woke up, not ... enough ... coffee ... yet ... :-) Also, I FINALLY found your comment on the LCLC-RP article - might wanna just ignore me from now on (apparently I'm an idiot).
Thanks for your help though.
Best regards: Cliff L. Knickerbocker, MS (talk) 12:52, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

Vandalism?
Hey - be careful what you call "vandalism". I'm trying to factually correct the UGG Boot article and everything I enter you seem to simply take down without any checking of whether or not it is factual. Just because you don't agree with it, it's not "vandalism." Let the facts speak for themselves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Erehwon37 (talk • contribs) 01:55, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, the above comment (on this) has some merit in it. Like his predecessors in a long series of SPAs, "Erehwon37" is convinced that this is an "UGG Boot article" (it isn't) and his edits are disruptive and may soon become actionable, but that edit was not vandalism. -- Hoary (talk) 02:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- I was using Huggle at the time, and it automatically issues the next warning level. I had no idea of the contributor's or the page's history. Please do note that the edit was made multiple times. Tyrol5 [Talk] 02:11, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Well, keep on coppering! (Meanwhile, I'm not tempted to use Huggle.) -- Hoary (talk) 02:22, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Tyrol - thanks for the explanation. I understand better now your points. But I assure you this is not "vandalism" - just trying to put some balanced perspective on an article that otherwise is slanted to a single country viewpoint on a Wiki platform that I thought was global. Hoary, I disagree with your perspective on Ugg boots, but I at least appreciate your above comment that I'm not a vandal. Indeed - I am expressing what is my honest and true perspective, and that which I believe to be shared by most people outside of Australia on the issue. Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Erehwon37 (talk • contribs) 02:29, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Tagging a user page as spam is NOT vandalism, especially given this editors history of inappropriate user page edits. Kindly remove the warning from my talk page. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 22:34, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Although this edit may be arguably not vandalism, It looked like a personal attack on the user (which is unacceptable, no matter how bad the user may be). The page also does not fall under the csd set for user pages. Tyrol5 [Talk] 22:37, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, it falls under the general csd set as a page that is primary to promote something, in this case his book. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 22:40, 7 August 2010 (UTC) PS - And my edit completely fails to qualify as vandalism since it's intent was not to deliberately compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 22:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- This was not executed properly. You should have approached the user on their talk page before blatantly marking it for csd. Tyrol5 [Talk] 22:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Regardless of your opinions on execution, it was and is not vandalism and I ask again that you remove the warning from my talk page. I'll leave their latest feeble attempt to promote their opinions in place since it seems to matter so much to you. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 22:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Done Although it may not be vandalism, please be careful about these things in the future. They could easily be mistaken for personal attacks, which is indeed vandalism. Tyrol5 [Talk] 22:51, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Duly noted. If I hadn't gone 'round and 'round with this editor and their obvious disregard for UTP guidelines I wouldn't have even bothered. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 22:54, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tyrol5, You've just declined my redirect text "Parvaz Homay". This is not a new text but the french version of that which already exists in English and Persian. Would you please tell me how I can add this translation to Wiki?
Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.89.242.99 (talk) 04:44, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- The article exists on this wiki. I rejected the request as there did not appear to be any proof that the subject's name was commonly spelled with a hyphen (-). Tyrol5 [Talk] 04:49, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- But I had writen "Parvaz Homay" without hyphen before and your colegue rejected it. I don't andrestand what can I write for the title. It has to be deffrent from the english version? How can I add a link "français" in language bar?

RE: Your essay
Thanks for the feedback - Hopefully more people will view it and take what it says on-board. I'm not sure it could ever be policy due to there being individuals whom would not like a restriction on the rationale that can be used, but it could certainly be a guideline (a bit like WP:IAR and WP:BOLD are). Apologies
I just want to say sorry about the argument with this talk page. I know that my rollbacker status seems to be removed as of now, but it seems that I have to be honest that I am sometimes a bit too crazy and a bit too fast.
As a 12th grader in high school, I have to be serious about what I should be doing. But since I was born, I am kind of autistic, so sometimes I get too crazy and get in trouble.
I need to try to slow down because most of my mistakes I commit was because I went too fast. Maybe going too fast was partially to blame for that edit war issue.
I'll try to slow down, and I hope that I could get my rollbacker status back again. Sometimes I am not aware that most vandals are IP addresses; however, this was not the case. I hope I can participate in cleaning up vandalism, but you should know that my school year is going to start next month, so unfortunately, maybe reverting vandalism might not be a good time waster as I should study for my SATs and my curriculum in my final year of high school. I hope I can contribute to Wikipedia much more efficiently and appropriately for the days, weeks, months and years to come. Bigtop みんな空の下 (トーク) 19:51, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
