Copy editing resources
[edit]Hi, TwistieV! I saw you'd signed-up for the August GOCE blitz and I wanted to make sure you have these resources:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to has tons of help. I particularly recommend Tony1's exercises.
- The Manual of Style is Wikipedia's house style guide. It is full of guidelines developed specificially for the purposes of writing on Wikipedia.
- The simplified Manual of Style are the essentials for starting-out. (The main page is huge and has dozens of sub-pages.)
In addition to the type of copy editing you might to elsewhere, Wikipedia's mandate gives us additional concerns like making sure information is formatted for screen-readers, uses plain English for ease-of-translation, and has neutral point-of-view. There's a lot to learn, but better to try it out and learn-as-you-go, and see if this is something you enjoy doing before putting the time into learning all of that.
I skimmed your initial edits on Abdulla Issa and they look good. If you have any questions feel free to ask me here, or let me know when you finish and I can check your work (time permitting). To get my attention please use {{ping|Reidgreg}}. Or if you want a faster response from another editor you can leave a message on the blitz talk page. – Reidgreg (talk) 15:00, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, TwistieV! Just checking in again. Did you finish your copy edit of Abdulla Issa? I feel it could use a little more work, some commas between clauses and a little bit of consistency (mostly Manual of Style) and spaces at references. Let me know if you're finished and I'll give it a through review. (In the future, try to leave an short note in the edit summary whenever you make an edit.) – Reidgreg (talk) 14:41, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
