Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Tw59, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Mariah Huq have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. AussieLegend (✉) 03:39, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
Mariah Huq
[edit]Please note that I have fixed a number of errors in Mariah Huq. These are: 1. Removed TV infobox. The article is about a person, not a TV program and should not be using {{Infobox television}} which contained a number of errors. 2. Removed all content specifically related to the TV program and not the article subject. 3. Added the missing "References" section. 4. Removed external links from the body of the article. External links belong in the "External links" section. 5. Removed the "Personal" section. This was a substantial copy of https://www.bravotv.com/people/mariah-huq and contitutes a copyright violation, as explained above. 6. Removed italics from the name. People's names are not italicised. The article has also been nominated for deletion as it has no references now that the TV program specific information has been removed. --AussieLegend (✉) 03:54, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Your addition to Mariah Huq has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. AussieLegend (✉) 05:03, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
- You were warned just above, twice, about copyright violations and yet you immediately restored the same content from the same source.[1] Copyright violations are taken seriously and if you do this again you may be blocked. --AussieLegend (✉) 05:06, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
Please stop removing maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Mariah Huq, without resolving the problem that the template refers to. This may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. AussieLegend (✉) 05:08, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
- Note that this specifically refers to the removal of the prod notice and templates at the top of the article.[2] Do not remove them again without fixing the identified problems. --AussieLegend (✉) 05:09, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
I also warned you that external links should not be included in the body of the article and yet you restored them.[3] This is inappropriate. Also, as I stated in an edit summary, people are referred to by their last, not first, names after the initial use of their full names. --AussieLegend (✉) 05:15, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you remove maintenance templates from Wikipedia articles without resolving the problem that the template refers to, as you did at Mariah Huq. AussieLegend (✉) 18:54, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit] As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to Mariah Huq, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Tw59, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Tw59|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. AussieLegend (✉) 10:52, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- As was explained to you above, Mariah Huq was only recently deleted after an AfD discussion and therefore cannot be recreated at this time. Your persistent attempts to recreate the article, both by submitting the draft article for review and moving your sandbox page to Mariah Huq (and then Talk:Mariah Huq!) are inappropriate. Please stop! --AussieLegend (✉) 10:56, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
