Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes (~~~~)
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put

welcome & invitation
[edit]Hi Turtire, welcome to Wikipedia. I just saw your comments regarding the New York City stop-and-frisk program article. I would like to offer my assistance to you in crafting some new text for the article. Perhaps we could draft some text here or in a user-space page, and then add it when we're satisfied. Do you already have some secondary sources from which you'd like to draw material? Just let me know how I can help. Aloha, groupuscule (talk) 23:33, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Do The Right Thing
[edit]Would somebody have had to yelled "I did this because of the film Do the Right Thing" while they were walking out of a theater and be quoted in the paper as such for there to be a "direct" link between the Greekfest riots and the movie?
The riot happened less than two months after the release of the film, began while Fight the Power was booming loudly from a vehicle (and that song was written specifically for the film by request of Spike Lee), and the start of the riot directly mirrored action at the end of the film (racial tensions with police and an item thrown through a plate glass window in response). The connection seems rather obvious, and direct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.36.227.178 (talk) 18:55, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
I'll add that you said the article does "NOT" state that the riot had anything to do with the movie, but just a few paragraphs into the article, it reads as follows:
"Then, early Sunday morning, as hundreds of college students partied on Atlantic Avenue, from a black van came "Fight the Power," the anti- establishment song by the rap group Public Enemy and the hit single from the soundtrack of Do the Right Thing, Spike Lee's movie about race relations:
"Bum rush this show, you got to go for what you know to make everybody see, in order to fight the power that be, What we got to say is power to the people, no delay make everybody see, in order to fight the power that be.
"The crowd, according to Goms and others who were there, grew frenzied, swept away by the pulsing rap beat and the words that called for them to strike out against the powers that be, to fight back against the white oppressors.
"The disturbance that followed raises again the question of the relationship between rap music and violence. And also, when Do the Right Thing came out, some said it would cause a riot."
That seems like a pretty clear connection made in the article itself.
I do not believe reference to the 1989 Greekfest riot should be removed from the Do the Right Thing page.
Shooting of Michael Brown talk page
[edit]Hi, Turtire. Regarding this edit [1], perhaps you weren't aware, but article talk pages are for discussing article and content additions and edits, not the article subject itself. The policy surrounding this is WP:NOTAFORUM. Perhaps you can take a moment and read what that article has to say. If you have any questions about what I've written here or the policy I referenced, feel free to respond here or even come to my talk page to discuss. Thanks for your interest in editing Wikipedia, -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 04:21, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
I have removed your post on the allegations. The allegations are a legitimate basis for discussion, but it is not appropriate to accuse him of a particular crime when he was actually accused of lesser, but still very serious, crimes. William Shockley
[edit]Hi, Turtire,
I suppose you might see this anyway from your watchlist, but in case you are still interested in further edits on an article where you commented on the talk page earlier this year, I thought I should let you know that the article William Shockley appears to have attracted new editor interest in the last few days. Your suggestions of sources about his life and work would be most welcome there. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 14:03, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
