I believe the South African proverb was walk, but the current proverb is speak. Could you double check your reference and be sure it talks about the South African proverb rather than the current one? Thanks, Malinaccier (talk) 02:58, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
"I believe" is a personal opinion. This google preview shows how it was quoted and it counts as their account of the proverb because it's at least someone recording the proverb. even the other links from this page say "speak softly" McCain can be seen during the debate referring to Teddy Roosevelt first saying "walk softly" then correcting as "talk softly" even though it's technically a misquote since Roosevelt said "speak softly". You need a reference that shows that the proverb was originally "walk softly", not just personal knowledge. Do you know of a source that shows that it was written or recorded somehow as "walk softly"? -Tsinoyman (talk) 03:20, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- The only reason I said "I believe" was to keep this from sounding like I was giving you a vandalism warning, but that's beside the point. The original writer of the statement had said this and I had accepted it as fact. I performed a cursory google search, but did not find anything to support the previous revision of the article. I will concede to your point in the face of the reference you provided. Thank you, Malinaccier (talk) 21:54, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
