[edit]- I appreciate the kind words and your strongest support. I have to admit being a bit surprised after you agreed when Bish (who later apologized) told me
I'll just mention that Wikipedia is not compulsory. "Editors are free to take a break or leave Wikipedia at any time" is fucking policy. Read up on it.
Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:44, 28 November 2022 (UTC)- Wow, I haven't even finished writing it yet. But thanks, and I mean what I wrote here. I am not sure that I even remember Bish saying that, unless it was after my own not-quite-retirement. Water under the bridge, and I remember well that you reached out to me at the time. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:03, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- This was at RexxS. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:12, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- OK, now I remember. That was a situation with zero good options, just a choice of bad ones. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:17, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

RfB
[edit]I don't think your characterization of SilkTork's opposition to my RfB is entirely accurate. His reason for opposing was that my promotion would bring the number of arbcrats to 4, which he viewed as too high a proportion: I am convinced by the arguments regarding a trend toward there being too many higher level permissions being grouped into the hands of a small group. If there were fewer than three Crats in ArbCom it would be a different matter
. He expands on this view in reply to Rhododendrites: Now, at what point should we get concerned that these two separate but related powers are being consolidated into one group? Difficult to know for sure. But perhaps a third seems an appropriate point at which to say that it seems we should pause to think about the implications. And I think that this should work both ways. So if there are already three Arbs who are Crats, perhaps we should not elect a fourth.
These are actually really good questions, and I don't think they should be reduced to a simple opposition to arbcrats. Now, we could potentially wind up with 4 crats on arbcom following this election, and because of that it's worth revisiting SilkTork's point when making voting decisionsI can't count. But I think the "hypocrisy" characterization is too strong; I don't see his candidacy as contrary to his comments at my RfB. I'd also recommend reading his response when BilledMammal asked him about this to see his thought process in deciding to run. — Wug·a·po·des 21:34, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing these things out. I think you are right, and I removed that whole part. After all, if I'm going to say that it's good to listen to feedback, then... --Tryptofish (talk) 21:38, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Scrolling up, it was actually his response to Dan Cherek, not to BilledMammal. (For the benefit of anyone else reading here.) --Tryptofish (talk) 21:41, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Wugapodes Maxim is stepping off. So if SilkTork is elected ArbCom will have 3. If he's not it will have two (WTT and Primefac - assuming PF is re-elected). Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 22:02, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know why I was hallucinating a third candidate then, but yes, counting again it's obviously 3. — Wug·a·po·des 22:19, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Given that Arbs and Crats have such different roles, I personally don't think it should be an issue at either ACE or RfB, regardless of the numbers. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:27, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

BoldLuis
[edit]@Tryptofish: BoldLuis is not blocked on Spanish Wikipedia. They received a 2-day block more than a year ago. I just wanted to clarify that. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 17:33, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Reaper Eternal: See above. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 17:37, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for correcting me on that. I've corrected my comment about it accordingly. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:33, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out. I was aware, but I'll clarify that. My concerns were with the reason for the block. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:01, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Apologies if I intrude unduly, but that seemed too funny not to point out. :-) —2d37 (talk) 02:05, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- I actually had thought briefly about making a joke about that. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:10, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
