Lyrics: please read!

I'm assuming you know about all these warnings on your talk page. This is because lyrics constitute a copyright violation. Even if lyrics.com has the right to post lyrics, that doesn't mean that Wikipedia can freely link there. If you want my two cents, I see that there's a copyright notice at the bottom of the page, but I can't find anything beyond that. There's nothing clearly stating that they have the right to use and reproduce the lyrics. And it's not like they hold the copyright, either; the original publishing company would have those rights. Just a note so that you're aware, cuz I don't want to see a legitimate editor get banned. SKS2K6 (talk) 22:17, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I contacted the company that provides the lyrics and they said that it is ok. They have the rights to the songs and as long as the lyrics are being linked to and not displayed on other sites i.e. wikipedia it is ok.

Unfortunately, we can not just take your word that they have given clearance to link to it. Additionally, the linked pages often have embedded YouTube videos of the song's music videos, which are also copyright violations. Lastly, there is no consensus for adding links to song lyrics not withstanding the legal standing. If you wish to see if the community would like to change this consensus, I recommend that you bring up the issue at Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs. Until then, please stop re-adding the links.
