Trishagives (talk) 18:01, 8 May 2018 (UTC) If there's something wrong I did, feel free to address it here. If you just want to talk, then do so, I'll respond at my earliest convenience. If you also want to address something else, then go ahead. I don't mind. tgave 04:52, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trish, I declined your request to protect Kelly's article on requests for page protection. Besides the fact that there has been little recent vandalism, it seems like you wanted the page protected because you felt that her Grammy awards should be mentioned in her opening sentence, and others disagreed with you (including me). This means that there is an edit war in which you are a part. Please be aware of not violating the three revert rule in this situation, where you can't undo content that isn't vandalism on any single page within a 24-hour period.

I would like to point you to style guidelines regarding the leads (beginnings) of articles, which Bryantriplex, Cruzin64, and Danny White were supporting in their reverts of your edits. It states: The lead section should briefly summarize the most important points covered in an article in such a way that it can stand on its own as a concise version of the article. The reason for a topic's noteworthiness should be established, or at least introduced, in the lead (but not by using subjective "peacock terms" such as "acclaimed" or "award-winning" or "hit"). I felt that this was clear-cut enough that I've also reverted your change. In the future, if there is something you disagree about in an article, open up a discussion on the article talk page. In this case, it's Talk:Tori Kelly. You can then invite other editors, especially those with whom you disagree, to talk about it there.

I know that starting out on Wikipedia involves a huge learning curve and I want to be helpful by trying to explain how to effectively write and collaborate. What I've said above isn't meant to admonish you, but rather to bring to your attention why certain actions have been taken and what effects your actions have or could have on article content.

If you haven't already, take a look at the links Biografer gave you here. They should be useful in showing you around. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask me or anyone else, for example at the teahouse. Best, Airplaneman 08:08, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your response on my talk page: It's fair to misunderstand Wikipedia guidelines and best practices. You now have a better idea of what counts as vandalism and how to deal with editing disagreements, as per my above post, so it should be easier to avoid such situations in the future.
