Your vast whisky knowledge

[edit]

Hi Trestarig, I'm looking to expand some whisky related articles, and one I am really looking forward to get up and running is on the excise act of 1823. Unfortunately, it seems hard to get all my information from web sources, and I was wondering if you have some proper sources lying about. The first thing I'm really looking for is the actual name of the act. In 1823 we have a Countervening Duties of Excise Act 1823, and a Customs and Excise Act 1823. I think it's the latter, but I can't be really sure. Do you have any way to check? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 16:17, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Martijn, i've been away from wikipedia for a while, are you still interested in this? If so let me know and i'd be glad to help. A fantastic source is Charles MacLean's book "Scotch: A Liquid History" that details the act. I also have an academic friend who's prepairing a book on the legal history of whiskey and he'd have some excellent sources to check. sorry it's taken so long to reply.
