Professional player-turned trainer Jamil Abiad helps youth of all ages to achieve their basketball dreams. Windsor-born Jamil Abiad has dedicated himself to developing the basketball skills of young athletes in Ottawa. Jamil’s own career in basketball allowed him to travel the world and learn from some of the best in the sport. After graduating high school as one of the top 24 players in Ottawa, Abiad played for 5 years at Bishop’s University where he became an RSEQ champion and silver medalist. After university, Jamil played professionally overseas, where he competed and trained with ex-NBA and top euroleague players. Jamil has taken that experience and built a brand in Ottawa as a professional trainer. He has worked with youth of all ages and levels of experience, developing their skills and helping each player to strive for their basketball goals. After living his own basketball dreams, he wanted to help others to achieve theirs. “After my university career, I was fortunate enough to play a couple of years professionally overseas. After playing my last season I decided it was time to put up the sneakers and help someone else reach their dreams.” “My goal is to help athletes of all ages reach their goals and dreams. I plan on doing this not only by helping them develop their skills on the court but to give them life skills for them to use outside of the court. I believe if you can be a good person and treat people with respect it goes a long way. The ball eventually stops bouncing and the skills you were able to acquire growing up is what you will need to fall back on.” Jamil aims to use his platform and programs to educate young athletes about diversity, loving one another, equality and treating each other with respect.
