License tagging for Image:NiftyNineties05.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:NiftyNineties05.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ChildsPlayLogo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ChildsPlayLogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:53, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Problems with upload of File:Simplex 2902-9739 LifeAlarm speaker-strobe.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Simplex 2902-9739 LifeAlarm speaker-strobe.JPG. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

File copyright problem with File:Simplex 2902-9739 LifeAlarm speaker-strobe.JPG
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Simplex 2902-9739 LifeAlarm speaker-strobe.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. B (talk) 03:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Uploading photos taken by others
[edit]I'm posting this here in case you didn't see it on your Commons talk page. I'm glad you've taken an interest in getting photos of the new MBTA buses - I usually don't manage to get shots until they're in revenue service - but Commons only allows photographs where there is undisputed proof that the photos have been made available under a free-use license. (All free-use images should be uploaded to Commons - the rules are exactly the same as local uploads on en.wikipedia, but Commons makes it possible for images to be used on all Wikimedia sites). Since someone else took the pictures you uploaded, there needs to be an explicit declaration of such permission in a verifiable format. Them merely sending you the images, or them saying "you can use this on Wikipedia" without an explicit and verifiable declaration of the license, is not even to prove that the images are suitably free to use. If the photographers of these pictures have indicated they are willing to allow their images to be used under a Commons-compatible free license, then they can send a statement of such (explicitly listing that they are the author, and which free-use license they allow use under) to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. You can find more details on that process here. Feel free to reply here if you have further questions. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:47, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:MBTA Bus 1250 in Readville.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:MBTA Bus 1250 in Readville.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, BOT-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate your file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:LineMaterialsUnidor400(1).jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:LineMaterialsUnidor400(1).jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Street Light images
[edit]Wow. Thanks for uploading these. Could you add the company names/model numbers to the image descriptions? So that they are more easily categorised at Wikimedia Commons? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:08, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
I've been doing the best I can to have them categorized. I.E. "WestinghouseOV25Silverliner.jpg" or "GeneralElectricM250R2.jpg" Tpirman1982 (talk)
- Thanks.. I meant adding the information into the Description field of the Information block... I've done a few myself. 22:20, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Putting pictures of lanterns in Wikipedia
[edit]Hello I"m dor123 from lighting-gallery.net:
I want to let you know that the reason why I erased the list of lanterns and manufacturers in the History of street lighting in the United States article, which included your pictures of lanterns that you uploaded to there, is because Wikipedia isn't lighting-gallery or GoL, and that this list isn't an encyclopedic information, but a fan made content, which isn't suitable for Wikipedia. This article is here to tell people about the history of street lighting in the United States, and not to tell and show all the lanterns in the United States. You can upload your pictures to lighting-gallery or GoL, but not to a website that pretend to be an encyclopedia. זור987 (talk) 04:42, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- And I've removed it again. Perhaps you might want to start a website that forks this content to its own wiki? Acroterion (talk) 15:32, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! [edit]The file File:AffinityLED.jpegP900D.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Orphaned image, no context to determine possible future encyclopedic use.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 07:39, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Asking for you to delete all of your streetlighting pictures from Wikimedia
[edit]I'm asking for you to delete all of your streetlighting pictures you uploaded not so long ago to the article History of street lighting in the United States from Wikipedia. The reason is: Here isn't streetlighting wiki, but Wikipedia. זור987 (talk) 10:51, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
- I moved the files to Commons. I think they are great! They are currently in c:Category:Street lights in the United States but could be moved to better categories. --MGA73 (talk) 13:31, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
- Which is why I hereby propose a deletion of History of street lighting in the United States from Wikipedia. Tpirman1982 (talk) 01:42, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
The article The Valentine's Day that Almost Wasn't has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Referenced entirely to IMDb. All hits on GBooks, ProQuest, and Newspapers.com were just directory listings
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
