built-in quota

[edit]

Out of curiosity...

Will this nomination procedure provide one list per day, 365 days per year?

If not, then what will be displayed on the days that don't have a list assigned to them?

fairness

[edit]

Here is a hypothetical question: "Is it fair to the FL creators to display a new featured list when older lists haven't yet been displayed?"

That became an issue for the WP:POTD project, and it will probably surface again here when creators notice that their FLs were skipped in favor of later FLs.

Remember, there are over 200 FL creators whose work will be affected by this project, and if they aren't pleased, any number of them may complain or object. It won't become an issue if fairness is built-in to the project to begin with.

Is there a specific reason why the featured lists won't be displayed in the order they were awarded featured list status?

Just wondering.

There aren't nearly as many featured lists, so older ones could probably be used quite easily. Redrocketboy 23:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Voting"

[edit]

I think that we should just extend the comment period and allow support and oppose comments - and then have someone who is trusted by the community select the List of the Day rather than a true "voting" and taking those that get the most votes. This would be more similar to the Article of the Day and require less overall effort from the editors to review and "vote" for candidates. --Trödel 16:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is the plan?

[edit]

There have been so many proposals and I have lost track of what is going on. There are nomination pages, but will those nominations appear on the main page? –thedemonhog talkedits 22:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We would also surely have had every featured list on the main page in under two years. –thedemonhog talkedits 23:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We have to show viability to make the main page. Thus, the way to get to the main page is either to build up support for this idea or another idea you may feel is viable.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 14:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some thoughts

[edit]
  1. Featured lists are primarily ways of organizing other information. As such, I am not sure they are in the same class as featured articles and featured images. Is this our best work in the same way as an FA or FP is?
  2. Setting aside the first point, and assuming there is a vote to choose the LOTD on the Main Page, I think the selection criteria should be as explicit as possible. With the current voting system, it seems as if very closly related lists could be the LOTD for several days running, which would be monotonous. I think there should be some rule that variety trumps the vote, if a vote is used. (It is my understanding that Today's Featured Picture has some sort of rule like this, and I know that Raul aims for variety on WP:TFA and DYK only allows one article per topic.)
  3. Given the second point, I think a committee or director OR some sort of random system would be fine for selecting the LOTD. I worry that the voting system is too much effort, and that if we are going to read lots of lists our efforts would be better spent on WP:FLC. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Idea

[edit]

I think it's a good idea and should be displayed at the bottom of the page, next to the POTD. miranda 23:04, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Repeat Nominees

[edit]

Should those be put under the new nominees so that the newer ones have higher priority? As there any rules about how/when a list can be repeated (besides, I'd guess, once you've been a LotD can't renominate)? Collectonian (talk) 04:07, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comments.

[edit]
  1. Have you considered making the voting page a single page, then moving the archives off to another page after its done? It would slightly more work, but it would make the voting page show up in folks watchlists when the new round begins, making it easier for us to remember and see that its time. :)
  2. The auto-renomination of those lists that didn't pass in a month seems like a bad idea to me. It is making the list too long, to me, and it will only get longer as time goes on. If someone wants to renominate a list, it should be something they have to do themselves rather than automatically being done.
  3. Is anyone monitoring the delistings of FLs versus the lists to ensure those delisted are automatically removed from consideration here?

Great Idea

[edit]

I think it is a very good idea! :-) Corn.u.co.pia ŢĐЌ Disc.us.sion 03:20, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto. If it fails for Main Page, how about offering for userpages? I might put it on (if I didn't think it'd just redlink when it fails to be adopted elsewhere...) TREKphiler hit me ♠ 05:45, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
