WikiCup 2011 September newsletter
We are on this year's home straight, with less than a month to go until the winner of the 2011 WikiCup will be decided. The fight for first place is currently being contested by Miyagawa (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Sp33dyphil (submissions), all of whom have over 200 points. This round has already seen multiple featured articles (1991 Atlantic hurricane season from Hurricanehink and Northrop YF-23 from Sp33dyphil) and a double-scoring featured list (Miyagawa's 1948 Summer Olympics medal table). The scores will likely increase far further before the end of the round on October 31 as everyone ups their pace. There is not much more to say- thoughts about next year's competition are welcome on the WikiCup talk page or the scoring talk page, and signups will open once a few things have been sorted out.
If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 12:37, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
I suspect that there might have been a spot of cross-editing on Eshan Sharma, as I had declined the deletion, just as you moved the tags to the top LOL! Anyway, I've removed them as there is some notability asserted. I personally don't think it would survive AFD, but it has enough assertion to pass CSD. Stephen! Coming... 11:56, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I've put the review on hold for 14 days. I feel there are aspects of Redding's life and career that are missing, so some research is needed. Also, the article could do with a copy edit and the lead needs attention. I'll help out where and when I can. I have almost finished working through the batch of GANs I took on, so I will find some spare time shortly. Regards SilkTork ✔Tea time 16:14, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

inre Yelena Chernykh
Your finding the Cyrillic spelling of her name has proven a godsend. Many, many thanks. I've just given myself a headache going through sources and translating Cyrillic Russian to find out a bit more about the actress,[1] and what I am finding is that there is some older coverage about her work, and the more recent coverage of her death is beginning to include decent information about her past. More to do, yes... and I am hoping for help from editors far more able than I in translating. I cannnot speak for why the editors at the Russian Wikipedia decided to speedy it and were not more proactive in improving, as the few editors discussing it deletion were concerned with an error about her being an American, the overall lack of soucring in it WP:UGLY version, and a different standard for WP:ACTOR and theater than we use here.[2] Their own verison of WP:PEOPLE bears a similarity to ours,[3] but only just. It's interesting to read how they determine notability there. However, and in looking to our own en.Wikipedia guidelines, I'm having some luck and the article is beginning to look like a better stub. I might even suggest the Russians consider moving the English verison to their pages. Any opinion on how I might best proceed? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:58, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Theycallmepiano
I've just politely declined an article by 'Piano' at AfC. I see that this was the second attempt by the same user today. I don't know what was in the first one, but if the second is identical then ... I thought you ought to know. I've notified Kudpung but he is "sleeping" now!
