Typeface stuff

Hi, Toast!

A couple things...

I see you added {{merge|Typeface}} to Copyright on typefaces, but did not open the discussion. Generally, if you're going to propose a merge, you should follow up and start the discussion at the indicated page. By the way, I think a merge is a bad idea. The general reader (as opposed to an attorney or law student) reading Typeface will not be reading it to find out about legal protections. They're reading it to find out about typeface. Only a few specialized readers will be interested in the copyright aspect, and can be directed to it via ordinary links or templates.

Also, I see one of your to-dos is to create Legal aspects of computer fonts. Consider whether that may be better served by updating the aforementioned Copyright on typefaces instead. It may not be applicable, if the legal aspects include non-IP aspects (such as licensing and other contractual issues, instead of just design patents and copyright); or if you're truly talking about the font programs, rather than the typeface designs; but I throw it out there.

By the way, I will probably be moving Copyright on typefaces to Intellectual property protection for typefaces. Even now, the article discusses design protection as well as copyright, so the title is a misnomer. TJRC (talk) 23:20, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, TJRC. I agree with your suggestions about Copyright on typefaces and i've undone the merge suggestion. The article i listed in my to-do is just there regarding my intention to eventually create a page that encompasses legal aspects of all of typefaces, computer fonts, and font licensing/web font licensing.

My goal is to create an article that will serve the interests of not only law students and attorneys, but also web developers and designers who may encounter licensing and copyright issues in their work.

What if we created one page that encompasses all of Intellectual property protection for typefaces, Copyright on typefaces, Legal aspects of computer fonts, and name it something like Legal aspects of typefaces ? I think that's a fine idea, if you have some non-IP aspects for discussion; if not, Intellectual property protection for typefaces is probably a better title. Looking at Typeface, all the material in the section "Legal aspects" is about IP. I'm not aware of a whole lot written on typeface or font licensing, but then I haven't looked at the issue in detail for many years. TJRC (talk) 00:03, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Patent and copyright protection of fonts

Hey Tasty Toast, Thanks for the extra articles on the discussion page of Patent and copyright protection of fonts. Please add anything you find necessary. I am some what stuck at the moment with the article and I am looking for peer reviews and other edits to move the article along.
