83.26.49.155 and virus threats made

I just tried to access the edit diff by that IP on Yeonpyeong Island‎ and my antivirus kept blocking the connection because of malware on the page, this is the same story with all of their contribs except the one on his talk page. Can you (or someone else) please revdel them to prevent users picking up malware. Thanks in advance! Signed by Barts1a Suggestions/compliments? Asgardian sockpuppet investigation

Hi. Why was the sock investigation closed without any conclusion rendered? It's fairly clear that it's Asgardian using those socks, and he has continued to violate policy since. He has been warned at that account for resumption of the behavior that got him banned, and he has left this message on the talk page of Off2riorob, with whom he edit warred in February 2010, an action that was used as evidence in the Arbitration case that led to his ban. Why was a conclusion not made? Nightscream (talk) 17:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I closed it because, at the time, all of the IPs had gone stale. The only IP that has edited since is 122.248.156.9 and it's their first edit in a month. If you feel there is enough evidence to re-open the SPI, please do so (bearing in mind that checkuser will not link named account to IPs). TNXMan 17:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

About deletion of article StNotepad Touch 3

Hi

Reposting it again since it has archieved.

I have added independent reviews on StNotepad Touch as the references to my article User:Rodriguezjuanjose52/Sandbox . Let me know about the further corrections and steps on posting the article.

Thanks, Rodriguezjuanjose52 (talk) 18:08, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't think either of the cited references demonstrates notability. Notability requires significant coverage in reliable sources. Neither of those sources is reliable as their content is, like Wikipedia, user-generated. – ukexpat (talk) 18:17, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Ukexpat is correct. The sources you have added are still not considered reliable. You'll need to add reliable sources before the article is ready to go. TNXMan 19:07, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

checking for improvements

Hello I'm an asshole, I've only ever had a handful of SPIs that I've opened and wondering if I'm doing anything wrong or if there is something I should do to improve in the future. I've probably spent more time fishing through diffs than I would like to admit so that I could try to be sure. I don't want to waste anyone's time including yours. Thank you,
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 21:55, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm on my way out the door, but I can reply to you later this evening - sorry for the delay! TNXMan 21:59, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm back! Sorry about that. In any case, I think the best thing anyone can do when opening SPI cases is to assume good faith. It's a trite and (on Wikipedia, anyway) over-used term, but it certainly comes in handy at SPI. I've found there are really two types of people that are investigated at SPI - POV pushers and serial vandals. Serial vandals are usually identifiable by certain actions and those cases can usually be processed quickly with a minimum of fuss.
POV pushers (or advertisers), on the other hand, require a gentler touch. Many come to Wikipedia unaware of our policies and of how the site works. Once you've been here a while (as you and I have), it becomes hard to remember how different a site this is. No ads. A collaborative atmosphere, instead of a competitive one. A neutral point of view, instead of a sell! sell! sell! view. And so on. When a new user is confronted with an experienced editor quoting policies and reverting quickly, it's easy to feel ganged-up on. So the user commits a seemingly minor offense of creating another account to provide support (after all, wouldn't this fly on other sites?). Is it intellectually dishonest? Yes - and I think they know that. But what I do not think they realize is how seriously it's taken on Wikipedia. Pointing out our relevant policies can go a long way to netting a good editor.
Now, how does this apply to you? You're certainly doing a good job keeping an eye out for Smkovalinsky and his socks, and for that, I'm appreciative. The only caution I would give you is that you can get over-enthusiastic. You can still whack the socks as they come up and do it in a way that won't scare off any legitimate new users.
Anyway, I apologize for the wordy response and hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. TNXMan 23:28, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
No apology necessary as this is very helpful to me. You're right about the (over)enthusiasm. Since this area is new to me, there is a certain degree of excitement when digging through diffs pays off. My neighbors might have heard me let out a "Gotcha!" :) If I did it more often, it would be simple routine. For me, vandal-fighting was excitement in the beginning but is now just routine and I'm probably better at it because of it. I imagine SPI might be the same if it was old hat to me. I will bear your advice in mind and hopefully improve. Feel free to advise me anytime...your advice is welcome. Thank you,
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 23:58, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
I just made an accusation at an AfD for an article concerning a meatpuppet of Smkovalinsky. Should I file an SPI for this? How should I proceed? I have to leave shortly but will check back later. Cheers,

OEF-Kyrgzstan

I see that the article Operation Enduring Freedom - Kyrgzstan was deleted by you. Maybe one day you could help me recreate a new article about it much more fit. If you will, thanks a lot! It not, okay. But that will help complete the list of OEF operations on the OEF article. Thanks! - BakeySaur99 (talk) 20:59, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. I don't see that as an article. If you can give me a link to where the page used to be, I can possibly restore the text for you to a sandbox. TNXMan 21:40, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Block of underlying IP?

Hi. :) Is it feasible to do a longer term block of the underlying IP at this SPI? We're miles away from cleaning up the last copyright mess this serial-infringer created. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:43, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes. I'll place the block a little later today. TNXMan 15:51, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

British School of Houston

Hi! I removed your PROD of the school since it goes up to grade 12, and therefore it has a high school. Typically high schools are notable. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:28, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I removed the other three PRODs since all of those schools have high school. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:30, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
The page don't list any significant coverage in reliable sources and I don't see how they are notable at all. TNXMan 19:32, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Typically primary schools and middle schools get merged into the articles about the school district or the town if there are no sources that prove notability, but high schools usually remain separate. I'll get to work on the British School of Houston article. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I found some secondary sources that talk about the British school, and added sourced information accordingly. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:19, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

An unblock request from a range block

Hi Tnxman. Could you please handle this unblock request? Looks like you blocked a whopping /17 range for block evasion, but since I don't know the details I'd have a hard time phrasing the message. Favonian (talk) 21:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I can, later tonight. The relevant material is here. Cheers! TNXMan 22:00, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Great. Thanks! Favonian (talk) 22:04, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Autoblock trouble

Could you take a look at Yoctobarryc (talk · contribs), who reports that he's caught in a stubborn autoblock? I've temporarily made him IP block exempt. The autoblock appears to be related to my block of Luthorsteele (talk · contribs) and perhaps Chris acabussi (talk · contribs), who apparently are editing from a university IP. Acroterion (talk) 21:33, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

It does appear related to Luthorsteele (not the account, the autoblock). IPBE looks like the best way to go, all things considered. Cheers! TNXMan 21:46, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - I've reset the blocked accounts with autoblock disabled, as I imagine they've gotten bored; maybe the autoblock will clear one of these days. Yoctobarryc reports that the IP remains blocked, but he can now log in. Acroterion (talk) 21:50, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, you had CU'd this report and marked Abhishek191288 (talk · contribs) and Sreerajarasa (talk · contribs) as likely socks. However, Wikistalk shows only 3 pages in common (of 310 and 13 respectively) over an editing overlap period greater than 30 months. And even of the three common articles, only one edit is actually similar. Given that the former user is one in good standing, I find the non-technical evidence to go against any socking allegations. Is the technical evidence strong enough to over rule any non-technical observation? And, given these circumstances is an indefinite block justified? The user had placed an unblock request but it was declined citing the SPI. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:44, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

FWIW, the user apparently doesn't realize that a CU has been done and is asking for one to exonerate him. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:54, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
I've rechecked the material and took a much closer look. It turns out the two accounts were editing at the same time on the same ISP. However, some of the other details don't add up and it seems unlikely they are the same person. Thank you for bringing this to my attention - an unblock would be a good idea. TNXMan 19:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
THanks. Could you do the honors or would you like me to do it citing this conversation? Also, could you check Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#sockpuppetry, the sockfarm is getting unmanageable right now across many articles and with AN3 reports from one sock on behalf of another and stuff. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:48, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick turnaround on both issues. Since YM and Nishkid are not active currently, the WP:India socks seem to linger on for a lot longer. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 20:23, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
No problem. If there's anything else, just let me know. TNXMan 20:25, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, re Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Daniel Tee 2010, how long does it take for accounts to become stale? I can probably find some more recent socks here. Adambro (talk) 17:07, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

About 3 months-ish. If you do find some more recent accounts, you'll need to make sure there is either behavioral evidence or other material to connect them to Daniel Tee 2010. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks! TNXMan 17:21, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay thanks, probably makes more sense for me to start a separate case based on one of the more recent socks rather than trying to link back to User:Daniel Tee 2010. The same behaviour in terms of adding false information is there with Daniel Tee 2010 but the individual has moved on to other similar articles and with the data being stale it has obviously started to become harder to link it all back. Adambro (talk) 17:25, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Question about edit marked as spam

Hey there, I noticed that, several months ago, you marked an edit i did as spam. I added Albany Patch, which is a local news website, to the Albany, CA, page. I'm curious why you didn't think that was appropriate. We're a legitimate local news outlet. I was just curious about your thinking on it. You can reach me via http://albany.patch.com if you'd like to write back. I'm not sure how I would get your response otherwise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.98.22 (talk) 07:55, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but adding links to external sites in the manner you did is considered advertising. Local media outlets should only be mentioned if they are notable and already have a Wikipedia article. TNXMan 12:46, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the explanation. We are certainly notable and are the primary news site in our city. We have been launched since June. Our parent company is definitely listed on Wiki. Are you suggesting that each individual Patch site also needs its own entry? Thanks for your help. We are listed on our city website, on our city library blog, and many other places... As a seasoned reporter, I have no hesitation in characterizing the site as "notable." We produce more than five new items about the city each day and, as I said, are the primary news site for Albany, CA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.57.175.60 (talk) 08:44, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

You removed an external link I put on the Albany, CA page calling it spam. I feel it deserves to be listed under external links as I explain on the talk page. What do you say? SteveChervitzTrutane (talk) 08:20, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I'll reply there so we can keep things centralized. TNXMan 12:45, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Noted - I'll have a look later today. The sources posted after your comment might support a keep, though. Thanks, either way, for the note. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 15:27, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Why do you keep removing my reference to Patch.com in St. Petersburg?

It's a legitimate news site. Patch.com has a Wikipedia page already. St. Petersburg Patch is the first to go live in Florida, followed by Patch sites in Bradenton, Largo, Sarasota, etc. It's a legitimate news site. It is not Spam. What's up?

When you keep posting links to non-notable external sites, it's considered spam. Please mention the site within the article only if it is notable and already has a Wikipedia article. TNXMan 16:42, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Old Northeast Patch is a branch of Patch.com, which already has a Wikipedia article. Are you saying it's not considered notable unless Old Northeast Patch has its own Wikipedia page to link to? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.203.141.130 (talk) 16:49, 16 December 2010 (UTC) Are there any Patch.com local sites that have successfully been added to Wikipedia with their own pages, as opposed to the Patch.com page? We would like to use them as a model. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.203.141.130 (talk) 16:56, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Pretty much. Wikipedia cannot accept links to every single website about a city. As for your second question, I'm not aware of any individual patch sites that are notable enough for their own article. TNXMan 17:00, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

OK. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bshersey (talkcontribs) 17:03, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Yongle the Great

Hey. Small question: are the two accounts you confirmed connected to any previously confirmed socks like Fix360 (talk · contribs), or say, the actual Yongle account? — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 15:25, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Almost certainly. I'll add a note to the SPI. Cheers! TNXMan 15:31, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

SPI Check

Not being experienced in SPI checks, I haven't done one for a long time, is the report OK? I presume I've misunderstood what the tool can do. Wee Curry Monster talk 23:38, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

No, the tool can connect users to IPs, it's just that the privacy policy restricts us from disclosing that information. Checkusers will connect accounts to accounts, but not accounts to IPs. I hope this helps. TNXMan 23:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Does the decline mean you're not doing an SPI check to see if these are sockpuppets or you have and you can't publish? I'm missing something, so you might have to explain it like you're talking to a 3 yr old. Wee Curry Monster talk 00:38, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
What this means is that I can't connect username accounts to IPs. So, even if I did run a check, I couldn't post the results to the investigation page and I couldn't (potentially) block anyone because people could infer connections if I did. TNXMan 12:44, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I think I understand, so the glaring hole is that socking using IP addresses can circumvent check user due to the privacy policy? Can you point me to the policy by the way so I don't keep bugging you? Wee Curry Monster talk 12:52, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Just because checkusers cannot disclose the connections does not mean administrators can't block them as socks (often known as the duck test). The privacy policy is outlined here. TNXMan 22:00, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to explain, I appreciate that. Wee Curry Monster talk 13:15, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Your deletion of DeKalb County Liners

The league it belongs to (the Prospect League) is certainly notable, as are its other member teams, so what makes the Liners any less notable than the other teams? If it was deleted over a lack of reliable sources, I will find some, so just give this page another chance, I will locate several reliable sources to make this page suitable for Wikipedia again. Thank you, Tom Danson (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

The article did not list any reliable sources that showed why the group was notable enough to warrant an article. There was a link to the team's twitter feed and Facebook page. I would suggest reading our guide to writing your first article, as that may assist you. TNXMan 19:03, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I KNOW THE F#@%&N CRITERIA TO WRITING ARTICLES! This is obviously not my first, as I have been here since 2006. You never even considered my proposal, as I said I would find reliable sources if given another chance. Come to think of it, this sounds like a "form letter" comment. You know, I think you might be getting a little drunk with power here. (PS: Before you report "personal attack," I am just stating facts) Tom Danson (talk) 23:21, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
OK. I do think it's a little strange that the article has existed since February with no reliable sources or, really, any indication of why this is a notable group. If you would like to to rewrite the article, by all means, go ahead. The page has not been salted and there is nothing stopping you from recreating the title. TNXMan 17:45, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

why was my article deleted?

my article was about a band named SkinCrawl. it was deleted and i don't know why.. what do i need to do to get it back up?

The article was deleted because it didn't indicate why the group was notable enough to warrant an encyclopedia article. I would encourage you to read our information on writing your first article. TNXMan 21:58, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Please, let me know how can I do so or any ideas. Thank you - Abi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abighale (talkcontribs) 21:48, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

First of all, you should note that, it seems you have a conflict of interest with the subject. Because of this, you are highly discouraged from editing/creating the article. Secondly, I would encourage you read our info how to edit when you have a conflict of interest. Finally, read our info on writing your first article and consider writing a draft in your userspace (something like User:Abighale/Sandbox) so you can work on improving the article before moving it to the mainspace. SPI: Mdmday

Need a refresher. Is it possible for CU to connect this account to accounts that would have been considered stale but have been checkusered before? There was a comment on my talk that there is a possibility that Mdmday is another user, User:Mrpontiac1. The IPs match and poor man's CU (autoblock) also seems to confirm that. Hi,

I've recently set up a wiki page to document the technical developments of a company I work for. The idea was to provide encyclopedic information for the greater good of people working in the Polyurethane industry.

However, I only got so far before I had to go out. Anyway, I came back this morning to see you have deleted it.

Please could you advise how I can revert this

I'm sorry, but the page read like an advertisement for the company. Phrases like "has become renowned in the Polyurethane world for developing customer specific solutions to some of the most taxing issues in the industry" really don't belong in a neutrally written encyclopedia. If you would like to go over the consensus again, I think DRV would be the best place to go. If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers! TNXMan 15:27, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
This is part of a related discussion Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 17. It would be helpful to have the two discussed together.JQ (talk) 01:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

About deletion of article StNotepad Touch

Hi

I found some articles related to StNotepad Touch on websites starbytecomputers and famouswhy. I have given them as reference to my article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rodriguezjuanjose52/Sandbox .

And I also noticed that StNotepad Touch got Brothersoft editor's pick award http://www.brothersoft.com/stnotepad-touch-432035.html . Can I show that in the article with a Award section?

Thanks and Regards, Rodriguezjuanjose52 (talk) 11:16, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but none of those sources appear very reliable. The Starbyte blog just appears to be a copy of the release notes. The Brothersoft link just appears to be a download page. TNXMan 12:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
