Help question
[edit]Hi!
As you guys can see, I edit very little.
1. I just noticed an important new page whose tone is promotional and non-objective with a vengeance, but I've forgotten how to bring this to the attention of others. The page is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_9.
2. It says someplace that it's better for me to archive content on my User talk page, instead of erasing it. Well, I've forgotten how to do that, too.
Thanks.

- Please put new things (like this) at the end of talk pages.
- To mark the article, edit it and put {{pov}} or {{advert}} - click those to see what message they will display. Add the code on the very top line of the article, on a line on its own. See Wikipedia:Template_messages/Cleanup.
- It is indeed better to archive your user talk page, but at the moment there is only the 'welcome' and this message, so it really isn't necessary; however, I have added an archive box to the top of this page, and I'll create an (empty) first archive. You can cut things from this page, and paste them into that page, as you wish.
- It is also possible to automate archiving, so that a bot automatically moves posts on this page if they have not had a reply in 'x' days. If you need that, give me a shout, some time.
- For all kinds of help, talk to helpers live, with this link. Cheers, Chzz ► 21:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Tagging articles for neutrality, and other things, is much easier to do if you enable the WP:TWINKLE gadget in your preferences (under 'gadgets'). Chzz ► 21:57, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Temporary help with dead link
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Hi! I have found a dead link which is archived on archive.org, but I don't have time to learn how to fix it right now, and I don't know how to leave an alert on the page so someone else can fix it.
The main page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Heine , and the dead link is the "external link" "* Parallel German/English text of Heine's poem Geoffroy Rudel and Melisande of Tripoli". Thanks Tireisias (talk) 06:58, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi!
In the article "Yixing Clay Teapot", a good reference for the sentence ending "utensils that may have functioned as teapots" would be The Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, already cited in the external links of that article, p. 205 and p. 209, note 24. The whole external link, in fact, should have "p. 205" added to it, since that's the only place she talks about Yixing ware. Tireisias (talk) 16:35, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- You're welcome to improve the article by adding that citation. The video at WP:Referencing for beginners explains how you can easily create a nicely-formatted footnote to cite the book as the source for the sentence in question. Huon (talk) 17:31, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Suggestion for https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distilled_beverage
[edit]I'm not good at editing. It would be very worthwhile to add to this article, between the words "being kept secret." and "In 1437, "burned water" (brandy) was mentioned", something like:
'The Spanish-Jewish legal scholar Rabbi Isaac Bar Sheshet (1326—1408) has left a detailed description of the manufacture of grape brandy, which he refers to as "agua ardiente", burning water. It seems to have been commonly produced and used in his time, mainly as a medicine.'
The URL of a standard online copy of the Rivash's book is http://hebrewbooks.org/44286 , and the exact human-readable reference could read something like '*Shut HaRivash*, section 255', or chapter 255, or whatever. In other words, something like "<a href="http://hebrewbooks.org/44286">Shut HaRivash</a>, section 255".
The wikipedia page of R. Isaac Bar Seshet himself is at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_ben_Sheshet . Tireisias (talk) 12:40, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
Suggestion for https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRISPR
[edit]
Wouldn't it be better for "These sequences are derived from DNA fragments of bacteriophages that had previously infected the prokaryote." to be something like 'These sequences are apparently derived from DNA fragments of bacteriophages that had previously infected the prokaryote.' The fact that everyone and his cat says it doesn't make it universally true. Maybe there are innate CRISPR sequences, or sequences from other sources.
