Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
- This may be outdated welcome, but noone else welcomed you yet, so hi! Have fun editing
Allergy
[edit]Re this edit [1]
The manner in which the section was written was not encyclopedic. Loaded words such as "obviously" and "most important" (compounded when together) should not be inferred by editors without a reliable source to back it up.
Additionally Pollen.com didn't come across as a very reliable source.
It was also unspecific as to whether this dealed with true IgE-mediated allergy.
"Some also recommend..." is also a case of WP:WEASEL. Who are these people that recommend showering, who says that these people recommend it?
Sorry if my edits irked you at all.--ZayZayEM 12:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
welcome!

When reverting vandalism, please warn the vandal
[edit]Hello. I'm in agreement with the recent revert you made to Physical fitness. You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. — Eric Herboso 07:22, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Users who vandalize wikipedia should always be warned. This is true even for users who are not logged in. (Without warnings placed on talk pages, it is difficult to identify repeat offenders.) You may want to use {{subst:uw-vandalism1|Article}} for light offenses, or {{subst:welcomeip|Your username}} for welcoming new anonymous users. If it is clear that the IP is used by multiple users, make sure the warning you give specifies that if they are not the vandal, then they may easily avoid any irrelevant messages from showing up by getting their own account. (You may want to use Wikipedia:Why create an account?.) Of course, these are just suggestions. There is nothing wrong with reverting without leaving a warning, and if you are in a hurry or otherwise would prefer not to, please feel free to not do so. — Eric Herboso 08:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Health
[edit](reposting this thread here to get it going again)...
Hi there. I was wondering if you might know what is going on with the WikiProject Health?? It seems that you are the only participant currently signed up for it- and it looks like you signed up/started it over a year ago? I am very interested in health and wikis (see my user page and would like to see this effort come alive in some form. Any information you have on this would be much appreciated. Thanks! --TinyE 22:12, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- There's nothing going on with WikiProject Health as a project (team effort) per se, except that it is currently serving as a health topic resource page. I created the page so that health-minded individuals would have a page through which to meet, and it has finally worked! (Now that I've met you). As a WikiProject, it may also provide a forum in which its members can collaborate.
- Though as the only "member", you could say that the WikiProject's activities have been my activities concerning health over the past year or so. Toward the development of health coverage on Wikipedia, I created the Health portal, the List of basic health topics, and the List of life extension related topics, expanded the coverage of Nootropics, worked on the article Life extension, and improved or created some articles related to Suicide (such as Suicide crisis) and other crisis-related topics (such as Help). I also added health sections to most of Wikipedia's main contents pages (List of overviews, Lists of topics, Lists of basic topics, List of glossaries, Portal:List of portals, and Wikipedia:Categorical index, and added it (along with the heart icon) to the menu of each of those pages. I was also instrumental in getting Contents added to Wikipedia's main menu (located in the sidebar on the lefthand side of the screen of every user who uses the default skin: "monobook"). That page has each of the main contents pages displayed across its top, providing through those easy access to all of Wikipedia's main subject categories, including health.
- Note that I haven't pushed the WikiProject platform (with recruiting drives, etc.) because I was busy helping to develop Wikipedia's "top end" (its navigation pages), and because health is developing quite nicely on Wikipedia without it, and also because WikiProjects have started adding a layer of bureaucracy to Wikipedia (with article ranking systems, for instance, which I see as a total waste of time). But as a focal point for team effort, such as collaborations on the creation and editing of specific key articles, I would love to see something get started with Wikipedia:WikiProject Health. Perhaps we could start on the scientific method as it relates to health research and treatment information. The Transhumanist 21:18, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- Transhumanist- Thanks for your comprehensive response. Amazing work you have done to get visibility for the health category on Wikipedia. I especially like your addition of the heart as the health icon on all menu pages. It is clear from reading over your list of overall contributions that you are a "Get-things-done-project-person" here. Your experience in this arena is appealing and motivating for me. I would like to get a better idea of what next steps you have in mind for the WikiProject Health. I do not have an MD background but my passion for the sharing of health information should allow me to add value. Let's start with what you are alluding to here: What is the "scientific method" that you refer to? Feel free to pass on any additional specifics of your vision and/or guidelines. --TinyE 07:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. Scientific method is a set of procedures used in science and by scientific researchers in verifying discoveries as knowledge and differentiating them from mere speculation and belief. It is the practical application of epistemology, and relies heavily on statistical theory. In the health sciences, a variation of scientific method involving double-blind placebo-controlled studies is used. It is not the only route to such knowledge, but it is the most politically supported (being entrenched in US federal regulations). There are many issues pertaining to these subjects which are not currently covered on Wikipedia, or covered sufficiently. I wouldn't mind joining a team of editors involved with researching and writing on this area, even if that team only has two people - but, I wish to complete efforts on the "help me" (crisis-related articles) project first -- see menu at top of my user page. If you are interested in helping me with that (as it is very health-related), please let me know. The Transhumanist 21:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- The section of Wikipedia described at User:The Transhumanist/Help me are basically crisis-related articles. Each has to do with health, in that each crisis type can adversely affect health. (Hunger causing starvation, suicide causing death, unemployment causing hunger and/or stress- or depression-induced suicide, etc.). I figured it was more urgent to cover crisis-related articles, because crises themselves are urgent in nature. And the entire category was (and still is) in great need of improvement. So, what do you say, are you game? The Transhumanist 23:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
A suggestion
[edit]To allow for better communication, please activate your email setting in my preferences (at the top of the page). That will allow me (and other Wikipedians) to contact you when you've been away for awhile (you've been gone from here since the 14th). I look forward to maintaining more timely contact concerning the above project. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 23:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
