Tong Wei (artist) moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Tong Wei (artist). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and Damanaged and incomplete references. Bare urls. . I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. scope_creepTalk 06:14, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Scope creep Sorry, I have this page watchlisted due to a previous warning, and I've had a look at the article in question. What bare URLs? The references are all in Chinese, and while that's not ideal, they do not appear to be malformed, and they are complete enough for me to identify the works in question. Could you explain in further detail? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 19:52, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- @TinaLees-Jones:@GreenLipstickLesbian: The page numbers for the book were missing were meaning unreliable references failing WP:V, that combined with a bare url on a references and no trans-title tags. Having no page numbers makes the references unreliable, combined with bare urls. It was more than borderline anyway. I see the book reference still have no page number, although additional references have been added, which is good I suppose. scope_creepTalk 07:42, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Scope creep I get why not having page numbers isn't ideal, but not having page numbers just means that it's hard to verify the material. It doesn't make the reference unreliable, just inconvenient. And while it's also true that we prefer it when people translate the their reference titles, it's not actually required for something to be in the mainspace. In fact, I had an article get approved to run on the main page while using untranslated titles. I'm not sure there's community consensus that just because a source title isn't in English means that it's unsuitable for mainspace. I'd be happy to look further into the issue, however, or ask others for their opinions. And I'm still not seeing any bare URLs in the article at the time of draftification, but I've probably missed them. Could you point them out to me? (And, maybe somewhere other than TinaLees-Jones talkpage? I feel like she's lent it to us for quite long enough already). GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 08:14, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- I know. It does make the cite book reference unreliable. Page numbers are the core of a cite book reference, otherwise they wouldn't be there. When you look at the time that readers spend looking at the article, they must be able to find the information quickly, under 7 seconds is the limit (It used to be that) or they move on. So it is contigent on us to make it easy as possible on them to find the information. I always tag the references unreliable if the page numbers are missing. Your right, its not a requirement for the reference material to be in English, which is long established consensus but it would be handy, but it seems to hide a whole series of abuses that wouldn't necessarily be visible if the text were in English, particularly when the article is translated. It wouldn't help of the trans-title tag were present right enough. Ref 7 is a bare url. scope_creepTalk 08:28, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Attribution on China–Tunisia relations
[edit]TinaLeesJones, you've been warned on four separate occasions to provide attribution when you translate content from the Chinese Wikipedia. And yet, I see you have failed to do so on the page China–Tunisia relations. Fix the attribution, following the steps at WP:RIA. Going forward, attribute all of your translations following the steps at WP:TFOLWP. Consider this your fifth warning. If you carry on plagiarising the Chinese Wikipedia (because that is what you are doing), I will go to WP:ANI and asked for you to be blocked or partially blocked from mainspace. But I know I won't have to do that, because I know you'll fix your mistakes and correctly attribute the text you add in the future. And if you have any questions about how to attribute text, you will ask me, one of the editors who warned you in the past, or the folks over at the WP:TEAHOUSE for assistance. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 19:48, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, I am new for Wikipedia, and wonder since I have updated the inter-wikipedia logs at Talk:China–Tunisia relations (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AChina%E2%80%93Tunisia_relations&diff=1247269377&oldid=1200854229), what should I do to meet your requirements? Thank you and have a nice day. TinaLees-Jones (talk) 02:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- If you keep doing this, you will likely get blocked. Attribution is critical. It is the core part of copyright policy on Wikipedia. The Admin Corps have no patience for editors who continual fail to attribute. I know from experience. scope_creepTalk 07:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, TinaLeesJones. The talk page notice is a great start! What we're really looking for is a link to the original text in the edit summary, whenver you translate text. This can look something like
Content in this edit was translated from the Chinese Wikipedia page [[:zh:EXACT NAME OF zhWIKI PAGE]]
, or it could look something likeContent translated from https://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E2%80%94%E7%AA%81%E5%B0%BC%E6%96%AF%E5%85%B3%E7%B3%BB&oldid=82973632
. Either would be okay. - If you forget to add attribution, you should say something like
Previous versions of this article contain material translated from [[:zh:EXACT NAME OF zhWIKI PAGE]]
orPrevious versions of this article contain material translated from https://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E2%80%94%E7%AA%81%E5%B0%BC%E6%96%AF%E5%85%B3%E7%B3%BB&oldid=82973632
- And, by edit summary, I mean the little box that should show up underneath you edit. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
- The URL or link to the original page needs to go in that box. Can you try doing that for me on China–Tunisia relations? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 07:53, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, I have just done an update in China–Tunisia relations. Can I understand that there are two parts.
- 1. fill in the information translated from in the talk page.
- 2. write the source in the Edit summary page.
- And then this is the full use of Creative Common 4.0 rules? Are there any other notes that need to be filled in? TinaLees-Jones (talk) 11:22, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, that's what you need to do. and I had a look at the edit you did on China-Tunisia relations. That's perfect! Thank you so much. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 21:13, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Red
[edit]Hi there again, TinaLees-Jones, and welcome to Women in Red. My interest in your articles was triggered by your adding the WiR user box to your user page. I hope this means that you will be writing more articles about women. As far as I can see, up to now you have created only two biographies of women and one other article on a women's organization. Although you are obviously an experienced editor, when writing about women you may find it useful to look through our Primer. If you would like others to see your interest in the project, you should sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:56, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

- Dear Ipigott, I translated a Chinese female linguist Xu Lin (linguist) for this project. Thank you very much! TinaLees-Jones (talk) 01:49, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- It's a good translation and it introduced me to the Bai language. I see you have also created Zhang Houcan. Great start on Women in Red! Do you base your translations on machine translation; if so, which system?--Ipigott (talk) 07:27, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! If the information is simple as a short statement, I probably translate it myself. However, if it's a tedious resume process, I would utilize Yudao Translate (youdao.com), which allows me to translate some contents more correctly (Chinese-to-English). However, I will not utilize Google Translate or ChatGPT since Google Translate erases crucial information and ChatGPT tampers with it, especially for communist-related ones. I also love to use Google-Book to enrich the contents. TinaLees-Jones (talk) 08:20, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you have the opportunity to visit China, I highly recommend you to book a flight to Yunnan Province and have some fun from Kunming-Dali-Lijiang. There are nearly 20 different ethnic minorities there - each of them has their own unique clothing, costumes, dialects, and cuisine. Chili peppers are the Bai people's favorite meal, and they even sprinkle chili powder on newlyweds on their wedding day. Because "chili" and "conjugal intimacy" have the similar pronunciation in Bai language. My most memorable experience was combining raw mango with chili peppers and drinking local tea cooked over a fire - the flavors were complex and memorable. - Thank you for your interesting comments but in future, if you want to make sure I read them, remember to ping me. Thank you for telling me about Youdao translate. I see from here that it covers many language combinations but most of the info is in Chinese. There is no mention of the translation application on Youdao and the the system is not listed on Comparison of machine translation applications. Perhaps you could help with pertinent updating? You might also be interested in experimenting with Deepl which allows you to translate smallish chuncks free of charge. I tried it out on some of your Chinese translations and found it pretty good. I have a background myself in machine translation and am always interested to hear of new developments.
- As for visiting China, my wife and I are both in our 80s and we are no long keen on taking long flights. The various ethnic groups do however sound fascinating. Maybe you will be able to introduce us to other interesting figures. The Bai dishes with chili sound really interesting. The only reference to Bai foods I can find is this which refers to some spicy dishes but not to chili. Maybe you could put something together on this for Wikipedia?
- Thanks also for your latest addition, Wu Xiaoling. I have noticed that many if not most of your creations had never been reviewed until I reviewed them myself. This was also the case with Wu Xiaoling. Please let me know if after a few days any of your future creations need reviewing. It's important as without reviewing, they are not usually included in searches by Google, etc. In any case, keep up the good work and happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:32, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your thoughtful suggestions for my improvement. I believe I'll make some good inquiries with some of my Yunnan friends who work in ethnography and local history and have a lot of insights and very unique experiences in this area, and if this information is already publicly available (either in the form of a paper or a book), I'd be happy to share it with you and others who are interested. (I probably will start with Bai people, since you have interested in them :).
- Also, I will look into the translator. Regarding Yodao, it's actually one of the most often used translators in phones (since most Chinese use Huawei or Apple, and Youdao translates fast and doesn't need a VPN, it's more popular for both kinds of phones). Deepl is a fantastic piece of software, and I hope to use it more in the future. Because English is my second language, I am concerned that my lack of English writing abilities and Chinese comprehension would cause me to make significant errors in my expression. I would appreciate your feedback if there are any errors in the translation. Thank you! TinaLees-Jones (talk) 13:32, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
