Vandalism on my user page
Hehe, I know this is about a week late, but anyway, thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. I really appreciate it since I didn't notice it. -- Daverocks (talk) 06:30, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. I noticed it while on patrol for vandalism in recent changes. Timrem 21:01, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
You changed tort to court with the explanation "spelling." Are you quite sure it didn't refer to tort? I'm not familiar with the case, so I don't know. Шизомби 21:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Could be. Just looked like a typo to me. I didn't recognize "tort" as anything. Timrem 22:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

"Slang" when spoken by Asians/ "Alternative" when spoken by Britis
Thanks for creating redirects to Asian American, but I don't believe anybody is going to spell "Asian" as "AZN". Regards, Mike Rosoft 19:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

- Redirects are for Wikipedia:Redirect#What_do_we_use_redirects_for.3F several listed reasons. Internet slang or shortcuts is not one of them. Vegaswikian 19:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- AZN is internet slang, not an alternate spelling. "Alternate spellings" refers mostly to differences between US and UK English, such as armor (US spelling) redirects to armour (UK spelling). Why don't you try User:SuggestBot to find something more productive to do than adding so many unneccesary redirects? Capable users will be able to find what they need without them. Timrem 21:22, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Your interpretation of the Wikipedia policy on redirects has not explicit grounds. It does not explicitly say some forms of language such as Asian internet slang is inferior to British language. The policy does not discriminate against the Asian race like you do. Why do you believe British language alternatives are okay, yet Asian internet language is not okay? -- Dark Tichondrias 21:28, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- What I meant was, no one using a print encyclopdia would (I hope) expect to find the article they want on something "Asian" by looking up "AZN." In no formal sources would such language be used, either. Despite its open nature, Wikipedia is still an encyclopedia. At the very least, I would suggest you add {{R from misspelling}} on the redirects you are creating. Also, the arguement you made to me, "'Slang' when spoken by Asians/ 'Alternative' when spoken by British," is nonsensical when put with the rest of your response. Be it Asian or British (or American or French or Spanish or Australian or whatever), internet slang is rarely spoken, and alternate spellings rarely affect how the word would be spoken anyway. Another thing: when responding to me, you yourself made a distinction between British language alternatives and Asian internet language. Official alternative spellings are worthy of redirects, internet language is not. BR Columbia, for example, does not redirect to British Columbia even though BR is used to stand for British. Like Zoe suggested, you should try to improve the articles you are creating these redirects to instead of adding infinitly many redirects. And I do not "discriminate against the Asian race" as you have claimed, I simply try to help make Wikipedia the best encyclopedia it can be. Timrem 21:57, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- BR Columbia is a bad analogy because it has a variety of interpretations and it not pronound BR Columbia in British Columbia's language. Azn is not an acronym like BR; it is an alternative pronunciation of Asian. Aside from the internet, Asian is sometimes pronounced with a distinctive "z". BR is an acronym with a variety of interpretations. BR could mean Bullet Resistant, Bearing Royalty, Boy Run, Berium Renewal, yet is no other interpretation for Azn. Because of BR's variety of interpretations, it cannot be used in an Encyclopedia and still have a single article of reference.--- Dark Tichondrias 22:08, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- A few points:
- AZN does not uniquely mean Asian, it can also stand for Azerbaijani manat
- I was not looking for a good analogy, and BR Columbia was the best I thought of in a short amount of time
- Spelling dictates pronunciation in real life, not the other way around
- Instead of addressing the point I made, you just disputed my means of making that point
- ...and a few errors:
- BR is not an acronym, acronyms are pronounced as if they are words
- BR Columbia would obviously refer to British Columbia (not Berium Renewal Columbia or whatever), just as Azn American would refer to Asian American in internet slang.
- Azn is slang, see AZN
- I hope this clears things up. Timrem 22:26, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Former Userbox redirect deletion
I knew that putting speedy delete tags on an ordinary template would cause the pages that transclude it to be nominated for speedy deletion also, but I wasn't thinking about how it would carry over for redirects. Thanks for letting me know. Ardric47 05:07, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Sandbot
The manual reset on the Sandbox talk pages wasn't working, so I've adjusted the heading to make it work. Sandbot reset the changes I made (I changed {{NAMESPACE}} to Wikipedia_talk), though. I made the change again, but I was wondering if you could update Sandbot so it keeps this new version. My guess is they tweaked the wiki software so there is no underscore in {{NAMESPACE}}, which in turn messed up the URL of the reset link. Thanks! Timrem 22:12, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Someone already re-adjusted that. Also, you may find a set of Sandbot tools at User:Sandbot/Tools. --AllyUnion (talk) 06:25, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

First Question
Tim, since you kindly offered to assist with questions...here goes:
I wanted my first contribution to be something positive like adding content to a short article that seemed to need expansion and I chose this article at random Interorbital Systems. However, after reviewing the article and trying to follow-up sources that it cites, I have a serious question about whether or not it should be nominated for deletion for the following reasons:
- Non Notable, I can't find any evidence that this company has actually done ANY of the things they claim.
- Vanity/Marketing, I'm pretty sure this article was created by the founder of the company in question.
Furthermore, the only newspaper article that I could find which mentions IOS directly contradicts the company's assertions regarding their participation in the X-Prize competition (ie, the company called IOS was NOT invited and has NOT participated in the competition).
If this is a 'legitimate' article then I would still be interested in expanding it. If you are willing, and have the time I would really like your opinion on this. If you don't have time (which I would certainly understand) please just drop me a note on my talkpage thingy. Thanks in advance Doc Tropics 18:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Effusive Thanks
I can't thank you enough for making my first interaction on WP such a positive experience. While you are far too civil to have said anything directly, your example has shown me the importance of checking outside souces. Given what you found I certainly agree that the article is legit and not a candidate for deletion on any grounds. I've also realized I shouldn't touch anything until I have a better grasp of the basics of editing :)
- As an aside...I'm familiar with the criticisms of WP, and I think that the participation of individuals like yourself is perhaps one of the project's greatest strengths. If I ever figure out how Barnstars work, I'll be giving one to you!

WP:NFT...
...is an essay, anyway. It's not meant to provide specific guidance, but rather to give philosophical underpinnings, which is all I was using it for. I thought your comment was sharply critical - I am glad it wasn't. Cheers. - CrazyRussian talk/email 02:51, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Recreation of deleted content
Warning: Do not recreate deleted content, as you did with BJAODN. That correct solution would have been to fix the old redirects, not recreate a cross-namespace redirect that was killed at WP:RFD. Repeated recreation of deleted content is a blockable offense. --Cyde↔Weys 04:30, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I only recreated the redirect because of the ~300 links to it, which I didn't have the patience to go through and correct, and I wasn't aware a bot could do the work. I don't plan on making a habit out of this. Timrem 18:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I think you may want to change your vote (yet again) from C2 to C3; the chance is that "The Free Encyclopedia" is replaced with "Test Wiki", and completely in red, too, to make it more obvious. —Nightstallion (?) 05:41, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Your signature
Hi Timrem. You are currently using a transcluded signature. I see that you are managing to circumvent the provision in the MediaWiki that avoids templated signatures by double transcluding your signature on User:Timrem/Sig/Sig. This functionality is depreacted for a reason (see WP:SIG#Transclusion/template). Perhaps you could change it to use a normal signature? Thanks very much. Sam Korn (smoddy) 19:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I hadn't thought to check WP:SIG when I changed my Signature to template form since I had seen another user with a template signature. Thanks for pointing this out. I just changed my sig back to standard form. Timrem 20:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Sandbox Header
I was just wondering why you changed the reset link in the sandbox header. With the new link, I believe only users with popups can reset the sandbox in one click, while the old Sandbot link allowed everyone to do so. I tried logging out and reseting the sandbox, and it required that I enter an edit summary and click save as well. Please see to this and change the link back to the Sandbot link if you see fit. Thank you. Timrem 22:30, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
