You relisted Comparison of Toyota hybrids for deletion after it looked like a consensus to keep. If there's are points that you think should be discussed that were not, I'd appreciate it if you'd go ahead and raise them in the discussion. Thanks. Ccrrccrr (talk) 02:53, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

I do not actually have an opinion on the article; my relist was solely based on the number of WP:ITSUSEFUL !votes in the discussion. Tim Song (talk) 03:06, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. That comment on the discussion page would have helped move the discussion along. Ccrrccrr (talk) 01:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome :). Tim Song (talk) 18:46, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

You're invited!

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Wikipedia Loves Landmarks, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example particular problems posed by Wikipedia articles about racist and anti-semitic people and movements (see the September meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

Hi Tim,

I'm new to Wikipedia and a complete novice so please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding procedures and correct terminology. I am trying to get my article published and was hoping you would clarify exactly what you mean and what I can do (if there is anything) to get it published.

Any help and or advice would be both welcomed and appreciated.

Many thanks,

Clean up the references section. Read our reliable sources guideline and notability guidelines for people, and remove or list separately all sources that are written by him or people affiliated to him. Find third-party sources that write about him in depth - not merely quoting him or mentioning him in passing. List them separately so that the next reviewer will not miss them. And rewrite the article to be from a more neutral point of view. It reads like a resume right now. Look at some of our featured articles to get a sense of how to write an article that sounds neutral. When you are done, put a {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} at the top of the article and someone will review it again. Tim Song (talk) 10:46, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Article: Jabulani Dhliwayo

Tim:

Thanks for your comments on the article on Jabulani Dhliwayo that I submitted recently. Jabulani is very well known by most people in the ICT or telecommunication industry in Africa for working on chaning the way telecommunication is done in Africa. He has worked through continental organizations and through lectures and talks as witnessed through Interviews and news coverage: http://www.aitecafrica.com/user/view/Jabulani+Dhliwayo http://www.itu.int/newsroom/press_releases/2004/03.html http://www.ictfocus.info/back-issues.htm http://www.developingtelecoms.com/entrepreneurs-spot-their-opportunities-at-icte-africa-2006.html http://www.swansat.com/milestones.htm http://unesco.8m.com/myweb4/ethiopia_2008.htm http://ipsnews.net/africa/nota.asp?idnews=29302 http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1P2-16350592.html http://www.itu.int/newsroom/press_releases/2004/02.html http://www.ictfocus.info/archive.html

Also is background is quite unique and I think this is worthy of an encyclopedia story that could help to motivate others. Like many in the industry, I have met Jabulani at several events.

  • Press releases or stuff written by him or people affiliated with him are not reliable sources. Sources that merely quote him or mention him in passing are trivial mentions and does not contribute to notability. The submission needs better sources.

ConceptDraw products DRVs

Hello. Sorry for disturbing you, but you wasn't indifferent to ConceptDraw DRVs and wrote positive comments.

May I explain you the situation from side? I'm not trying to hide my COI or use proxies, I behave by Wiki rules, I wrote articles which were approved by Wiki admins and after that suddenly all of them deleted by Hu12. Moreover, my account is blocked because of bad history of ConceptDraw products in Wiki (but I was trying to fix this situation) and the existence of other accounts from this IP (VPN Internet gives us a single IP for all workers, but only I'm writing about our products, no puppets at all) and I'm evading block (write from my IP not using proxies) only for appealing and discussion. My goal is to provide useful and objective information about notable products that will met Wiki requirements. The existence of articles about our competitors products (which are far more promotional and have less references) confirms that it's possible.

Could you please give me any advice concerning this situation? I don't want to make things worse.

Many thanks in advance.

Sincerely yours, CSOWind. 195.138.71.154 (talk) 08:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Your SPI suggests that some of your co-workers are also editing ConceptDraw-related articles. My personal feeling is that this is not as bad as using sock/meatpuppets to vote stack at AfD or DRV, but many may feel differently.
Also, I wasn't really writing "positive" comments. I felt that the deletions were out of process, that the softwares are likely notable, that the articles are generally descriptive, and that deleting them would not be beneficial to our end goal here - to build an encyclopedia. You admit that you have a conflict of interest - that means you should not have created them to start with, much less edited them and filing multiple DRVs. A lot of people here think of that very negatively, as you should have known by now.
My advice is, first, stop evading your block - people tend to view that very negatively, and with good reason. Evading your block to appeal the deletion of your articles - especially when you were blocked for creating them - is a very bad idea.
Second, if you are only here to write about your company's products, don't bother. It backfires, as you have seen.
Third, if you still want to contribute - for indeed we probably have a gap in articles related to Ukraine, then - after a few months without socking or evading your block - you may want to try {{2nd chance}} with an unblock request to show that you are able to contribute constructively to topics unrelated to your company's products. If that fails, WP:BASC remains an option. Even if you are unblocked, please stay away from any and all articles related to your company.
Fourth, if, at any time, you find inaccuracies or false or misleading information in articles related to your company, try contacting WP:OTRS, who can deal with it.
Finally, I'm willing to take over the articles - if they are undeleted and survive an AfD - they probably will be merged together, as was suggested in DRV. What you can do is to send me, over email (via Special:EmailUser/Tim Song), links to reliable sources, independent of your company, covering those products. There are also helpful people in the #wikipedia-en-help connect and #wikipedia-en-afc connect IRC channels who may be able to offer some assistance. Tim Song (talk) 10:31, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
First of all, thank you for the detailed answer. I really appreciate this.
As for the SPI, yes, some of my co-workers were editing the articles with me, but there were just minor changes (links editing and redirects). All major changes from other accounts were done before 11 September (mostly 2 or 3 years ago), after that date only I was writing and discussing all articles. And I wished to solve this question according your rules with only good intentions, by cut and try method, but was punished for this.
Thank you for the advices about block evading. I just couldn't watch how my work was deleted with a single click after all improvements and approvals. And I wasn't sure that somebody would create a DRV for them instead of me.
I can create articles about Ukraine for sure, but my account is now blocked. Do I need to wait several months for appealing and unblocking and then contribute or I can start contributing without an account? Also, is there a list of required articles about Ukraine?
As for the links, I can't send you a message because my account is blocked, but you can take them from the articles - there are lots of them (about 10 for each article), they're all independent from our company and many of them are from reliable sources like MacWorld or MacUser. I can give you more if needed.
Once more, thank you for your help. CSOWind. 195.138.71.154 (talk) 11:26, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Your email access was not taken away as far as I can see, which means that you can still send emails. The point of waiting here is to prove that you can abide by our rules - you have, after all, been evading your block. For Ukraine-related articles, check out WP:WikiProject Ukraine. Are you willing to withdraw your nomination in this AFD? I don't see how it can be anything but a keep at the moment. Tim Song (talk) 05:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tim. I'd rather not withdraw my nomination. I've been busy over the past couple days and haven't had time to follow the procedure of notifying the other interested parties yet. I just now actually wrote my reasons for the nomination, and will follow through with the rest of the procedures tonight.
Assumption of good faith aside, it's my personal feeling that the current keep votes are from Magibon fans with a history of maintaining her page. I believe that from an objective standpoint, she's not notable.
Thank you very much for the courtesy notice.Pisomojado (talk) 06:43, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

hello, the banhammer has many more uses than banning in internet gaming. additionally, it has recently become a physical, tangible object, as i linked to in the actual article. unfortunately i do not know how to go back to see it to link back to it as you've requested. but it was in the changes to the page. please reconsider your overzealous deletion of the Banhammer page.

The article was redirected in accordance with the consensus in the AfD debate. You may note that not a single editor recommended keeping it as a full article. The existence of a single non-notable novelty item for sale somewhere does not invalidate the consensus, as pointed out to you by Gavia immer (talk · contribs) in the DRV. Screech note: template for deletion

I don't understand your edit comment. If I put the wrong template, then why didn't you add the correct one? Or do you not think the article should be deleted? I did not see that you added anything to the Talk page for the article Screech note. --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

There is no speedy criterion that applies to that article. If you want to WP:PROD or WP:AFD it, go ahead. I don't have time to research the sources at the moment. Tim Song (talk) 19:24, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello Tim. I saw you marked this article not english, which I think normally would be the best action to take. But in this case, can we not assume by the article's title and the lack of references that this is an original essay? Or do we have to wait until it is translated to make that determination?--TParis00ap (talk) 16:19, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

I just prodded it after checking the Google translation - was planning to. But it doesn't hurt to list it at WP:PNT for someone fluent in Japanese to take a look. Tim Song (talk) 16:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Community interpreting

I noticed you removed the nom for speedy I put on Community interpreting saying that it wasn't promotional. I was hoping you'd take another look at it, seeing as how it's just a description of a type of job and an external link to a community college course that would make you qualified for it.Cathardic (talk) 16:34, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry Tim for jumping in, but I felt I could help answer. Db-spam is for articles that if you removed the advertising, there would not be anything left for the article. This article, after removing the link, has plenty of content to be an article. No offense intended, but if you read WP:WIHSD, you'll get a much clearer perspective on the CSD tags. Thanks.--TParis00ap (talk) 16:49, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Did I just acquire a talk page stalker? :) What TParis00ap said. Personally I apply a somewhat more liberal standard on G11s - I consider stubbification a "fundamental rewrite" - but it isn't blatant spam if you just need to remove a link. Tim Song (talk) 17:19, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

I routinely relist AfDs - you can see that if you check the daily logs. I don't have an opinion on this one, but it is pretty clear that the discussion has not attracted enough editors to form a consensus, hence the relist. Tim Song (talk) 05:21, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

It would be that easy, huh :) Thanks Calmer Waters 03:09, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I rewrote the AFC page based on printed books available at Google. The subject appears to be quite notable for a brief period between two world wars - but nothing on his earlier life or WW2 or post-war (contemporary Allied press makes an impression that during WW2 he was sort of a publicity front for the Navy while other guys did the real job).

The article should be correctly named Takahashi Sankichi (not Sankishi) plus a redirect from Sankichi Takahashi (the folks at WP:JAPAN and WP:MILHIST should know better). Note that a full namesake, Takahashi Sankichi, is a post-war and, I guess, still living Japanese chemist and inventor (or are the chemist and inventor two different persons?).

I am not the original poster and this is not a test of any kind, I just prefer to keep a low profile for a while. 83.237.242.199 (talk) 19:33, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Since Takahashi is the family name, per MOS:JP it should be Sankichi Takahashi. Accepted. Thanks a lot! Tim Song (talk) 03:18, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Vili Fualaau

I do not see consensus in the AfD for Vili Fualaau. It looks like opinions are completely across the board. - BalthCat (talk) 19:30, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I see a consensus that Vili Fualaau should not be a redlink, and a consensus that there should not be a separate article on this subject. You are, of course, free to merge any sourced content, should you prefer. Tim Song (talk) 19:40, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
A weak consensus, if that, and I didn't support a merge, I supported a BLP1E title. (So I've no desire to merge the information.) The issue with redirecting summarily is that now the information is essentially hidden/lost to editors who don't know the redirect was made after article creation. I would prefer the redirect be undone and a merge tag used. I'm considering being Bold but that requires I take more responsibility for the article than I'm able at the moment. - BalthCat (talk) 19:48, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Feel free to start a discussion at the appropriate talk page to change it - see WP:ND3. However, according to the comments at the discussion, there is very little additional sourced content to merge. Tim Song (talk) 19:58, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Additionally...

Your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Matt Bixel (2nd nomination) was a bit off the mark, as my suggestion was to merge to the individual name, not the article name. I have left comments on the talk page of the article to say the merge should be to that destination but I'm concerned that the AfD close text will result in people not looking there, or ignoring it. - BalthCat (talk) 19:41, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I see you reverted your close. I agree that merge was a fair close, but I just didn't want to reword your close (or the article template) as to the destination article. - BalthCat (talk) 19:51, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
There's no consensus as to the merge target, so I reopened it for a fuller discussion. I think the only fair close is "keep, merging discussions should happen on the article's talk page", but I'll let someone else close it. Tim Song (talk) 19:53, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

MurmurHash Afd

Tim, I'd like to thank you for the interest you have taken in the AfD and suggest that, as you have identified yourself as willing to perform non-admin closures, you might wish to consider doing so. I do not mean to rush you in any way, but the AfD has been open for over ten days now and there seems to be a consensus. If you're not comfortable with closing it immediately, I would suggest that seven days from the relisting might be an appropriate timeline. My motive in this is that, per sligocki's suggestion, I would like to put a bit more work into cleaning up the article, and it would seem pointless to do so until after I know whether it will be deleted. Phil Spectre (talk) 01:36, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

I'll leave that for a mopster to close - don't worry, barring a second relist, it will be closed 7 days from the relist or earlier. Tim Song (talk) 01:51, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello Tim. I removed the speedy from this article because I felt it doesn't meet the criteria of db-person. Db-person doesn't require notability, it only requires there not to be a claim of fame or notability. There are a few things on there that I feel disqualifies it, 1) the award, 2) the book, and 3) the controversy. I strongly recommend this go to AfD, but I cannot set that up right now. Articel for creation/Kristian Alexander

Hello Tim, please take a look. How can I add photos? Thanks, Jobert.--174.114.147.183 (talk) 08:13, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

As I said there, I cleaned up the article. "Wikilink" means linking to Wikipedia using our internal links syntax - that is, double square brackets like [[this]]. It took me a while, even with automated tools, to clean up the article. In addition, it is generally unnecessary to link to the same term more than once - especially terms like "Canada" or "Toronto".
To add a photo, you first must upload it. If the photo is public domain, or licensed under CC-BY-SA or GFDL or a compatible license, you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons at commons:Commons:Upload. If the image is "non-free" and not eligible for commons, it may only be used if it satisfies our non-free content criteria, which is unlikely for a photo of a living person unless it's some sort of historical occasion. After the photo is uploaded, you can use it here. See WP:PICTURE for a description on how to use pictures in articles.
I commented at the submission. Tim Song (talk) 07:38, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia article nominated for deletion by thrice-banned user

Hello, Mr. Song.

The user known as Beetleguice [sic] has been cyberharassing me via Wikipedia for several months now. His name is Anthony Zayas. He started out as Azayas4reel. Since then, he has adopted various sock puppets, including HarabianNights, Harabiannights1, Tainotalisman2 and now Tainotalisman8 and Beetleguice [sic]. All of the above stated users write in the same inflammatory style and misspell the same words (most notable "playwrite" instead of "playwright"). Please ban him again (as both Tainotalisman8 and Beetleguice) and prevent him from vandalizing again on Wikipedia. Thank you so much.

I am unable to offer assistance in this matter. Please report suspected sockpuppetry at WP:SPI. If they are a block-evading sockpuppet and no other editor supported deletion in the meantime, the nomination may be speedily closed. Tim Song (talk) 02:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Not vandalism

I've tried to add some comments to a blatent advertising page, and have been told I'm vandalizing... So what's the deal? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.163.127 (talk) 06:16, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Your edit accused another party of fraud without citing any sources whatsoever. Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Tim Song (talk) 17:58, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Tommy Byrne irish/musician singer

why is this article to be deleted? Tommy is renowned as one of the greatest irish ballad singers ever and should be recognised as so,not just redirected to the main wolfe tones page, thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.105.51.73 (talk) 13:36, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I merely relisted the debate for further discussion and have no opinion on the article. Please make your argument at the deletion discussion page. Thanks. Tim Song (talk) 17:29, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Articles for creation/Kristian Alexander

Hello Tim,

Thank you for your help. In terms of meeting the criteria for notability, this is what I have discovered:

1. He was featured in a 30-minute interview/profile followed by a 45-minute broadcasting of a concert under his conducting on July 27, 1992. 2. He was featured in a 30-minute interview with France Beaudoin on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, 8January 8, 2007. 3. He was featured in a 30-minute interview with Bill Andersen on Classical 96.3 FM "The Nation's Classical Station", July 29, 2009. 4. He was featured in a 30-minute interview with Alexa Petrenko on Classical 96.3 FM "The Nation's Classical Station", October 30, 2009. 5. He was also featured in a full article in the book "Who's who in Bulgaria", 1998, p. 19, Sofia, ISBN 954-528-083-2.

I have added this to the article sources.

In terms of adding inline citations as necessary to substantiate the numerous assertions, would you please help me with pointing out the "assertions" that need citations? What about photos - how can I add a photo?

Thank you, Jobert--174.114.147.183 (talk) 16:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Most of the statements needs sourcing - when/where he was born, details of his career, etc. For photos, see my previous reply on this page. Tim Song (talk) 17:34, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Per discussion on IRC, I'm moving it to mainspace. Further revisions can occur there. Tim Song (talk) 18:44, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tim, While you were uploading the article to the "public space", I have added 22 inline refferences. WOuld this be enough to remove the comment above the article:

"This article includes a list of references, related reading or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. Please improve this article by introducing more precise citations where appropriate. (November 2009)"?

Thanks, Jobert.--174.114.147.183 (talk) 19:35, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, would adding the 22 inline refferences result in changing the rating of the article and moving it up to a higher level?--174.114.147.183 (talk) 19:41, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Kristian Alexander article

Hi Tim, I have just created an account (ID=renial1) in order to upload a photo. Could you confirm my account and take into consideration the several edits that I have done over the past few days (they are asking for a minimum of 10 edits)? Thanks, Jobert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Renial1 (talkcontribs) 20:11, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

If the photo is free, please upload to Wikimedia Commons at their upload page. My understanding is that they do not require confirmation.
If it is not free, as I said before it is unlikely to be accepted. Tim Song (talk) 22:34, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Orphan Article

Please note that you labeled the Hollywood Gold Cup top three finishers an orphan article. It has over 40 links on it to other articles including its parent article. It is formatted in a uniform fashion that has been agreed upon by the 70+ members of the Thoroughbred Project on wikipedia.--Craiglduncan (talk) 21:28, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

An orphan is an article that is not linked to. Special:WhatLinksHere/Hollywood Gold Cup top three finishers shows only one link to Hollywood Gold Cup top three finishers. Tim Song (talk) 21:31, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

careful with NAC AFD closures

I came across Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Chun (professor). You marked it as keep, but didn't remove the templates from the article and place the appropriate result on the talk page. It's more work to only do a partial closure like this- so be careful. tedder (talk) 06:30, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

My best guess is that it was due to a failure of the closure script I used for unknown reason, as it reported back to me that the edit was successful. Not the first time this happened :( I'll double-check in the future. Tim Song (talk) 06:35, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Gotcha. No problem. There seem to be others around that time period, so it's not just you. tedder (talk) 06:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Ugh, I just went through all my AfD closes for the last month or so - Julius Weinberg and Tsuki no Misaki also had the same problem, but other editors removed the tags. Then there's the AfD that made it to ANI today, and a couple more when the article was moved before I closed the AfD, and I didn't notice, but that's about it. Looks like everything is fixed. AFCs for HKDTC

What do you think if I was to make an article about HKDTC from Hong Kong International Tea Fair with page move, to include the various fairs that keep getting submitted by the IP request, rather than the continued addition of non notabile requests and possible numberous long standing stubs that do make it? I left a question pertaining to it on their talk page that has not been responded to. Oppinions? Calmer Waters 01:05, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Good idea. We can make a list and a bunch of redirects. Tim Song (talk) 01:06, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
According to the article Hong Kong Trade Development Council they have 30 trade fairs. Would an article name of Hong Kong Trade Development Council Trade Fairs be appropriate or maybe just HKTDC Trade Fairs? Calmer Waters 01:18, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
I would use the former, unless HKTDC is almost always referred to by the abbreviation, which I doubt. Tim Song (talk) 01:54, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
OK. I started working on it as a AFC page to help with moving the information over. If and when it is able to be moved, we could go with the shorter more practical name :) Calmer Waters 02:25, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Judas etc

Isn't that riff originally from Tom Sawyer? Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 06:04, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I actually don't know. Just saw it online one day. I can't find anything with a quick search in Gutenberg's text version, though. Tim Song (talk) 06:14, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
