Queries

[edit]

Hey @Shanze1: is there any particular reason, you are send thanks often? Timbaaa (talk) 04:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Timbaaa: Just to show appreciation (usually when I see you've already updated something I wanted to). It is commonly made to thank useful edits in WP. WP:THANKS Shanze1 (talk) 04:18, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Shanze1: Is there a way to draw vertical and horizontal lines(Not the grids) parallel to axes in Wikipedia? If yeah, we can use that to mark beginning of lockdown and other similar events in chart.Timbaaa (talk) 16:25, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, I think there is none. Check its documentation here. It sounds good. Maybe we can just use text to describe it like Karnataka article does or think of other ways. Shanze1 (talk) 16:32, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Shanze1: You say about stacked area chart? IMO, It will be hard to interpret. Timbaaa (talk) 01:38, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Timbaaa: I didn't notice the last message earlier. No I didn't mean stacked area chart. I meant the Key Dates section above this chart. But it looks fine as it is as there is the timeline sidebar now.
BTW, Thanks for the adding the new Tests per day chart. I know how much effort it takes. (I was about to suggest switching it from line to bar format, but you did that already) - Shanze1 (talk) 04:28, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Shanze1: We can make similar timeline for India page too.Timbaaa (talk) 07:51, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Timbaaa: I think that's a good idea. But, are you thinking about a adding it next to the Timeline section with every notable event till date? That would be kinda long though. However, I think it should be okay if such timeline is kept in the Timeline of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India. Shanze1 (talk) 08:15, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Shanze1: Yes, It should be in the timeline page. If it is main page it will be messy. I'll open a discussion about this in its talk page.Timbaaa (talk) 08:58, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vala keep, The article was moved from 2020 Coronavirus pandemic in Andhra pradesh to 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Andhra Pradesh in order to keep the article title consistent with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization). TN Districts table update

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've updated the Tamil Nadu District Wise Case Table. But it seems linked to some WikiData,
Can you explain how to update that ?
I've recently been updating the Stats section there. Of course I've been updating anonymously.
So It would be nice to put up some instruction on the talk page.
Thanks. - 219.91.177.43 (talk) 16:24, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for updating graphs in TN article. Wikidata is being updated by Task force over at Wikidata:Wikidata:WikiProject_India/COVID-19_task_force. You may read this discussion above User talk:Timbaaa#COVID-19 Tamil Nadu districts data it is about the same.- Timbaa -> ping me 01:54, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2020 coronavirus pandemic in MP

[edit]

Thanks bro for adding Medical cases chart to article 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Madhya Pradesh. This will help in understanding timeline of the pandemic in the state in more better way. By the way, how can i help in updating that template regularly because i don't know how to do it. HeroNumberZero (talk) 05:08, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HeroNumberZero, Follow this syntax date;death_numbers;recov_numbers;total_cases. Update once a day, parallel with government updates or any reliable source. Refer this template - Timbaa -> ping me 05:30, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 Tamil Nadu districts data

[edit]

Hi Nizil_Shah, I noticed you linked wikidata to the Template:2019–20 coronavirus pandemic data/India/Gujarat medical cases and also you edit in wikidata. I'm trying link wikidata to the Template:2019–20 coronavirus pandemic data/India/Tamil Nadu medical cases by district. My trial can be found at User:Timbaaa/sandbox/3. There seems to be some data claims missing at the 'number of deaths' property (Property:P1120) for many districts. Should I wait for data to be added by someone in Task Force, or I edit in wikidata and continue. I have little to no edits or experience in wikidata. Timbaaa (talk) 06:33, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all Gujarat charts and maps. I handle updating COVID-19 Gujarat data on Wikidata. Other editors are handling other states' data. You can see Wikidata:Wikidata:WikiProject_India/COVID-19_task_force where all things happening. This Google Sheet keeps eye on updation. Gnoeee handles Tamil Nadu data and death data is as of 29 April 2020. So he will probably update it soon. Wikidata editing is quite easy if you want to learn. Gnoeee can answer query about its updation schedule. Regards, -Nizil (talk) 07:45, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nizil Shah:I shall wait for him to update. Also, I think it's better to confirm with him before I try to make any edits in wikidata. Timbaaa (talk) 10:20, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Timbaaa:, Thank you for starting working on creating table from Wikidata. I was updating the TN items from some couple of days along with some other states too. The TN state data is upto data as you see in the Infobox of the article. But the recovery cases of district wise data has only started to publish in the bulletin from last 2-3 days only. The data upto 29th has been updated and currently working on updating 30th data from bulletin. I have missed the data of death cases of districts and couldn't get time work on that. It will be really helpful if you can help us to complete the data. We are happy if you could join the project and start contributing to. Regards -❙❚❚❙❙ JinOy ❚❙❚❙❙ 11:56, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gnoeee: I'll start adding data to TN. For state data, bulletins are used as reference. For districts, you mentioned 'District Wise recoveries and deaths are not available in bulletins. Searching for other sources' on the google sheet above, can we use official dashboard as the reference for it? District wise data is available in it(can be viewed by selecting district name). I'll add my name in the task-force, once I get hang of editing in wikidata and linking from wikidata.- Timbaa -> ping me 15:01, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Timbaaa: From last 28th onwards they are publishing district wise recovery data in bulletin. So now we can use that data and add that as reference. Ya Of course, you can add the details from the official dashboard of TN govt that are missing in the bulletin.-❙❚❚❙❙ JinOy ❚❙❚❙❙ 16:50, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gnoeee:Okay, lemme try adding May 1's data. After that I'll ping you.- Timbaa -> ping me 17:03, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gnoeee, I tried adding data using quick statements. I found two problems.

  • Adding references(figured how to correct it, there was error in syntax)
  • If I add with same value for any statements, it doesn't changes the value but the other params in statement changes. (So, I should add only the data that is changed in the day, correct?)

Also, I reverted back my edits.- Timbaa -> ping me 03:04, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Found one more problem, the tool does like symbols(_,#,etc.,) in the strings. P854(reference URLS) take URL as reference. But, the TN dashboard URL has '#' in it. So, tool breaks. Do you know any work around for this? - Timbaa -> ping me 07:58, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Timbaaa: Thank you for starting working on it. Yes, add the data which are changing.. Other wise in QS it will keep on adding the claims in the same Value created before. Can you check adding once more the URL with double quotation marks. In my knowledge it will work.-❙❚❚❙❙ JinOy ❚❙❚❙❙ 10:49, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gnoeee: Nope, still doesn't work. Also, it is mentioned as caution here Wikidata:Help:QuickStatements#Add simple statement under strings. - Timbaa -> ping me 13:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated districts total and recov numbers for May 1. Dead is still remaining, which has ref addition problem. And once you create new bulletin item, I can add the data using that reference. - Timbaa -> ping me 14:07, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Timbaaa: Please look to this QS batch. It is possible to add the dashboard link by QS and I have added it for Chennai district death case. From the last bulletin they ave started to add the death case by district. But old data of death case by district is not available in the bulletin. In the dashboard also the date wise data is not available. So need to get some other reliable sources to add as reference for the claims to district wise items. Ya, I will help you by creating the bulletin item for TN each day.-❙❚❚❙❙ JinOy ❚❙❚❙❙ 19:54, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. - Timbaa -> ping me 02:20, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Gnoeee, I got hang of things in the task force. If you need, I can also update any one more state data regularly. Just tell me which one. - Timbaa -> ping me 10:28, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Timbaaa, I have pasted Wikidata code for India on Template:COVID-19 testing by country to autoupdate testing figures, but as per requirment of this Template I can't put a code for date in dm format, could you help to put the code in dm format for this template. It will be apperciable, Thanks. - Mayankj429 (talk) 05:45, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - Mayankj429 (talk) 05:56, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Mayankj429, Just to clarify use df=dmy or dm or DMy in the 'sentence' for date format. Since they use Template:DTS, I changed the format in this template. And used the default date format in the 'sentence' - Timbaa -> ping me 06:01, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

France - number of deaths

[edit]

Hi Timbaaa, I was just wondering if there's a reason for the change on the France stats template, whereby the % increase in number of deaths is now given as an absolute value. Thanks, Arcturus (talk) 14:30, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Arcturus, I was changing the |data = params, to reduce manual calculations. |changetype2 = was set to a. That's an error on my side. Now changed to p. Also, there's a comment in that line. - Timbaaa -> ping me 14:42, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Actually, the absolute increase is sometimes useful, and ideally it should be there alongside the % increase. However, I guess there's a problem with the available space, and not making the display too "busy". What do you think? Arcturus (talk) 14:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Arcturus, IMO, the percentage change is meaningful wherever there is a significant change. And absolute change makes more sense in the exact opposite (say less than 1%). But template allows only to show any one of them(automatically). It's possible to show both, it requires updating manually. - Timbaaa -> ping me 15:01, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, agreed. Low increases are better displayed as absolute, and higher as %. I notice some templates use the former, where increases are low. Probably best to avoid the large effort required for manual changes. Thanks. Arcturus (talk) 15:05, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your help desk question

Did you ever get an answer to this question?

I'm just now getting around to reading the archives from when you asked. The only answer I have is to try WP:VPT.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:27, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vchimpanzee, I got some answer at Template_talk:Graph:Chart#Vertical_lines_in_Wikipedia_charts which uses JSON to work with, I found it difficult. Then I let it go.
If you find any easier way to do it, please do let me know. - Timbaaa -> ping me 01:53, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't have any idea how. I was just letting you know you didn't get an answer on the Help Desk, though you may have already known.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:21, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Timbaaa, As you know, for India in Template:COVID-19 testing by country, we use the date pulled over from Wikidata for latest entry under statement no. of clinical tests, but what i see is ICMR is attributing tests done to a day earlier ( you can see they are saying Samples Tested up to 16 June 2020 as of now) as they update it on 9 AM next day, so the template basically represents the date till which samples have been tested. Now what i wanna know, is if their is a way to change the code in such a way that it shows date just before the latest entry made i.e. when we update the tests under 17 June as point of time qualifier, then it can reflect 16 June in the template. Let me know if this is possible. Regards Mayankj429 (talk) 14:04, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mayankj429, I'll see if can find anything, then I'll ping you! - Timbaaa -> ping me 16:07, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Mayankj429, I couldn't find any, maybe you can ask at wikidata task force. - Timbaaa -> ping me 16:58, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Timbaaa, Thanks. Meanwhile i have came across to something which can work using Template:Stringsplit which we had previously used in infoboxes.

Demo lines are commented out!(To avoid Watchlist flooding)

What do you think, will this be safe? Mayankj429 (talk) 17:20, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Mayankj429, Technically, it'll work. But for an untrained eye, it'll be confusing even if they know about getting data from wikidata. Why split the value and its corresponding qualifier? May be you can update the date qualifier differently in wikidata. - Timbaaa -> ping me 01:52, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
