C&J Clarks

Hi Tim

Apologies for only spotting your messages now. I would appreciate help updating the C&J Clarks page if you are able to give it. I have had a look at the articles you suggested and understand the conflicts of interest, but am unsure how to progress from here.

I have also looked at the other on the talk page, and it appears that other staff members have been making edits to different pages. If i can find another IP address, could this be verified so that my updates are not associated to the misbehaviour of colleagues?

Cornwall Fire Brigade

Sometime ago we spoke about someone who was changing articles based on their personal knowledge - but the website said otherwise.

Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy

Hello,

You submitted this comment about an edit I made 'Unfortunately, your edit to Prior Park College does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.'

I was surprised by this as the edit was backed by a link to a site with the Citation from the High Courts of Justice: http://web.mac.com/dominicscott/The_Scott_Zone/Prior_Park_College,_Bath,_Discriminate%21.html Therefore the edit was a fact that has been stated in print; indeed the judgement is Case Law and can be found in the legal archives. Please reconsider your deletion and advise if you still consider it inappropriate, why you consider it inappropriate as the comment above is clearly invalid (if you will excuse the pun). 1) mac.com is a place for hosting personal websites. It is not a reliable source/reference. It would be better to point to press reports of the same case, or to actual high court reports if they are available. 2) the NPOV comments related to the language used which was emotive and clearly not neutral. 3) If I read correctly looking at the documents there was a reporting restriction imposed preventing the child involved being named, yet that is exactly what you are doing by pointing to copies of correspondence. --TimTay (talk) 07:19, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Somerset schools (especially Taunton)

Hi, Can I pick your brains/expertise. As yu may have spotted I've been trying to deal with lots of the outstanding issues at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset/Cleanup listing, which as you know includes lots of schools which I'm now looking at tackling. There are also quite a few red links at List of schools in Somerset which need articles created & was going to set up a "template" in my sandbox - what do you think is the minimum needed? A particular query - looking at Ladymead Community School it says it is going to close in 2010 - following the ref to BBC - Academy plan clears major hurdle says it's going to be merged with St Augustine of Canterbury School, but I can't find what the new academy will be called - should we work on existing articles or start a new one for the proposed academy?— Rod ^talk 10:03, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I haven't seen a name for the academy either, so perhaps for a now a short stub might be justified for St Augustines. I would say that the minimum for any school article is an infobox, complete with logo, location, head name, number on roll, website, ofsted number and type of school (including specialism). The body should contain basic info about the school - essentially an expansion of the infobox content. Ideally it should also contain a photo (that image finder you showed me is excellent for that), academic performance taken from BBC's referenceable league tables and a summary of the last Ofsted report, or others if there have been significant changes between reports. Personally I'm not a fan of listing the school houses and colours, nor the notable alumni unless each one is referenced (Millfield is a great example of taking alumni to the extreme!) --TimTay (talk) 16:44, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - I now believe all secondary schools have at least a stub (except Yeovil College which isn't a school nor an FE college - so I'm not quite sure what to do with it). I've not added logos as I can't get a handle on the licensing rules for these, or the league table positions/ofsted as I can't interpret them. Unfree images

Thanks for your work nominating images at WP:PUF. Did you know that there's an alternative tag for images which are tagged with a free license but there is no verification that the license applies to the image? It's {{subst:npd}}. Its main advantages are that it is processed in 7 days rather than 14, and it's quicker for admins to clear down the category. Stifle (talk) 08:49, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Flat-twin

Can you tell me what you think is going on here? As best I can tell, there is a user being seriously unreasonable on a whole string of counts, and acting with no regard to the rules. Is it him or is it me? He carries on as if he has authority to decide exactly what goes into the article, despite having (as best I can see) not much understanding of anything of which he speaks. Does he have any authority? He has at least one book on this subject, from the content he's provided it looks pretty worthless (perhaps there is good information in there, but what he's shared is not it - nor does it use anything like the language he claims). I don't mind going away and leaving him (and you) in peace but I thought I'd check with someone more experienced first. If I can blow my own trumpet, there are several articles (eg Motorcycle, Two-stroke) that are probably much more high-visibility than this one, and where I think my work and command of the English language has been fairly well-received. I don't understand why I should be having such trouble with this Flat-twin article, which still contains some real sillinesses, like the business of the oil-temperature of a V-twin. 'WikiProject: BMW Motorcycle' Proposal

Dear Biker Biker,

Having seen your edits with regards to BMW motorcycles, I would like to make you aware that I am currently this new WikiProject would have the primary aim of creating and developing a page for each model (both old and new) of BMW motorcycle produced in the company's history. This would enable a highly valuable resource to be for both enthusiasts and restorers such as myself to be created, where extensive information about specifcations, development, modifications and the history behind could be found. Not only this, but it would encourage motorcycle enthusiasts, who would not normally have used Wikipedia, to both use its resources and to contribute to the project's pages, becoming part of the motorcycle fraternity which would be the driving force behind this community. Once this task has been completed of English Wikipedia, I, with help of other editors and members of the project, would like to then translate the pages into other languages (particularly German, in order to make the resources available in Germany, where many BMW enthusiasts and restorers are concentrated), and so contribute to the wider Wikipedia group. The WikiProject, would also contribute large numbers of pictures to Wikimedia, as part of its galleries.

In order to promote the group and encourage the growth of the articles in our scope, the WikiProject is not only being promoted to present editors who are currently active editing articles on BMW itself and motorcycles in general, but also notify groups such as the Vintage Motor Cycle Club and the BMW Club in the U.K., which would encourage members (20,000+) to contribute some of the extensive knowledge of the topic which is demonstrated by members of these clubs. Members of the WikiProject who are active in clubs outside of the U.K., would also be encouraged to promote the Project to their respective society, making the WikiProject multinational. Current, more experienced editors, would then help the 'new boys' to use Wikipedia and share their knowledge, which has often been built up during the course of a lifetime of passion for BMW motorcycles. This would enable us, together, to produce a resource which will help generations long into the future and help preserve and catalogue BMW's legacy in the motorcycle industry.

Currently, there are no such WikiProjects which would be dedicated solely to the BMW motorcycles (not even BMW itself) and the development of pages on each individual model, in opposed to the current situation where some models are briefly referred on a BMW related page. This WikiProject would allow this community of people who are highly knowledgeable about this specific topic to develop articles in extreme depth, something not possible with larger groups, which could then be published on the world wide web, available gratis, as with all Wikipedia articles, to the public.

If successful, the idea could serve as a blueprint and be replicated for other motorcycle manufacturers.
