Jack Pope (Texas jurist)
[edit]Thank you so much for your article about Jack Pope, and your subsequent work to address issues towards getting it ready for article space.
Of the comments from the first review:
- Write in longer paragraphs. comment: It looks like that was done, I pulled some things into short paragraphs to point out close paraphrasing issues and when they are resolved can be put back into larger paragraphs.
- Concentrate on the major issues. comment: That seems to be resolved, from what I can see.
- Don't repeat his name--a good substitute is "He" (and do not repeat the title "Judge" or "Justice" after the first use of it) comment: That seems to be resolved
- Write as concisely as possible. It is not of encyclopedic interest who stood behind him at ceremonies. comment: That seems to be resolved
- Try to keep picture captions as short as possible-- and make sure you have pictures that have a free license--we cannot use copyright photos of living people. If none are available, there can unfortunately be no illustrations. comment: That seems to be resolved
- And make certain nothing is copied or closely paraphrased from any of the references. comment: see below
There are a couple of things that can be done to help it get to "accept" status:
- 1. Add citations where there are "citation needed" tags.
- Most of these were created when I removed the reference to "Andrew Jackson Pope". Texas State Cemetery. 1998. Retrieved May 14, 2013. -- because it was a primary source (i.e., written by Pope himself)
- Portions of sentences or paragraphs that were attributed to a source, but I didn't find the information in the cited source.
- 2. Resolve the copy paste and close paraphrase tags. Both of these are forms of copyright violation, copy-paste being the worse of the two. They just need to be reworded in different order and with different words. For instance:
- "With 38 years on trial and appellate benches, his judicial tenure as a whole is the longest of any sitting Texas Supreme Court justice in history."[1]
- might be reworded to
- "Pope has the longest tenure in the history of Texas Supreme Court justices, having served appellate and trial courts for 38 years."
I hope this helps, please let me know if I can help out.--CaroleHenson (talk) 15:14, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Status and Advice
[edit]As reviewing administrator, I did not remove the article and i reversed the blanking. In the absence of a clear source, I cannot speedy delete it. Buit you continue to have addressed none of the conditions above--it remains a promotional biography, and could be deleted for that reason.
Try to write it in a more objective manner. Rewrite every sentence that sounds like a press release, Combine the material on his awards into a single paragraph. Remove every adjective of praise--every single one of them. Don't use phrases like " he had involvement in ...". Probably many dozens of people, including all his judicial colleagues, had involvement in these changes.
It remains the case that none of the sources can be fully trusted--they are all connected with him in one way or another, or have reason to write the most laudatory item possible. Try to at least find something from he major Texas newspapers. I'll check in a week or two. DGG ( talk ) 18:24, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
