Hello. I have spotted you out and about. Thanks! --Mais oui! 20:06, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better variety of sources

[edit]

Yeah, this is a very common problem! Unfortunately we do depend very heavily on the BBC and The Scotsman/SoS archives. Coverage of Scottish topics in other reliable/serious media is pretty erratic, and it is infuriating that The Herald/Sunday Herald links go dead within a week or so.

We are of course allowed to use sources other than websites (eg academic literature, journals etc), in fact these are actually preferred. But of course it entails trips to the library and a heck of a lot more time and energy.

I certainly would not worry about it too much. If the only reliable refs you have are BBC or Scotsman, then so what? Just use what you have. 50 BBC stories, as reference material, is far, far better than an article with zero refs!!! ;)

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia?!

[edit]

What are you talking about? Check my contributions and tell me what's "nonsense". Or else just mind your own business! 88.88.42.120 09:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was my own talk page! The rules define vandalism as: "Removing the comments of other users from talk pages other than your own" Furthermore: "The above rules do not apply to a user's own talk page." On the other hand: "Removing personal attacks is often considered legitimate" You called me a vandal, and I have no problem removing that.
Read the rules before you make groundless accusations against others, and leave my page alone. 88.88.42.120 17:55, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure why you removed a welcome tag with such aggressive language? In anycase, if you wish to keep it blank- that's fine- but as it's an IP address, and could be used by other anon users- so I would advise opening a Wikipedia account. Regards Thunderwing 17:59, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saw IV

[edit]

Thanks for experimenting with the page Saw IV on Wikipedia. Your recent edit appears to have added obviously incorrect information and has been reverted or removed. All information in our encyclopedia must be attributable to a reliable, published source. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --Geniac 13:23, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was talking about this edit. --Geniac 04:10, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I reverted to the wrong version- sorry about that! Thunderwing 08:04, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, then. Happy editing! --Geniac 14:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goldie777

[edit]

Dear Thunderwing,

+ Thank you for your kind welcoming message. I will be sure to contact you if I need help.
 + Yours sincerely,
 + Goldie777

Dear Thunderwing, I have taken "overboard" (!) your suggestions and have rewritten the article. Many thanks, Goldie777

Dear Thunderwing, (Help me!) I am sorry. I will try to control my opinions in the future. Is there any part of Wikipedia where you can express your personal opinions? Or will such an area be created in the near future? Also, how can one become an admin such as yourself? Please reply. Many thanks, Goldie777 P.S. I was sure that Goldie had a camo appearance in The Stepford Wives. That is a fact, not an opinion! Am I right?

How do I become an admin/editor?

Your edits to Jim Dobson

[edit]

In response to an OTRS ticket (#2007041710009994), I had a look at the history of Jim Dobson. An anon removed two paragraphs of text that was both unsourced and derogatory [1], but you reverted the anon's changes [2] and replaced the inappropriate text. In the future, please make sure you read removed content before you restore it. Thanks! - jredmond 15:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TeckWiz's RFA

[edit]

Hey Thunderwing. Thanks for supporting my unsuccessful RFA this week under my old name, TeckWiz. I'm now known simply as User:R. I hope to keep helping and improving Wikipedia alongside you. By the way, I'm not TeckWiz3. That was my third nomination. I was TeckWiz. --TeckWiz is now R ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 21:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA thanks

[edit]

Thank you, Thunderwing, for your constructive comments in my recent RFA, which passed with 86 support, 8 oppose, and 5 neutral !votes. I will keep in mind all your suggestions and/or concerns, and will try to live up to your standards. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as soon as I possibly can, without frying my brain, of course.
Thank you once more,

Charlie McCarthy (socialist)

[edit]

Thanks for your message.

Sorry, I probably should have put something in to say why I had deleted the deletion notice, but I didnt see a link for the AfD nomination. I think this article should be kept for the moment in relation to the inquiry into perjury in the Sheridan v News International court case Ms medusa 11:40, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thunderwing, thanks for your kind words in support of my RfA. Please feel free to drop me a note any time if there is anything that I might be able to do for you. Pastordavid 15:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

You're right, it might be justified to used it about Dewar. I might guess that some SNP-supporters might disagree, but there's no denying that the sources are respected and use that term. However, the article in general is still original research and should, in my opinion, be deleted. JdeJ 23:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thunderwing/Archive 01, as a WikiProject Scotland participant, please check out this this thread and consider adding the bot results page to your watchlist so we can manually update the New Articles page. There are some false results for the first batch, but I'm sure we can collectively tune the rules to improve the output.

If we get enough people watching the results page, we'll be cooking with gas as they say :)   This looks like a great helper in finding new Scotland related material. Cheers. --Cactus.man 02:05, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Scottish Cabinet.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Scottish Cabinet.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Docg 21:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MSPs

[edit]

Thanks for the response. I hope you don't mind me adding some colour to the party grouping templates?

I still have another 3 more regions to link up properly. Will get them done soon.

Glad to find someone who is interested in this side of Scottish politics.
