Moving the Goalposts
[edit]I too have had the same sort of attacks made against me on my own site by these trolls. But, I say again, that is not the issue. The issue is that your entry has been and can be again easily, used by the trolls to publish the addresses of my friends and put them in danger from bums who are looking to beat ME up. Been through all of this on the Discussion page already. Please don't askl me to repeat it. You will see that no matter what I say, they just twist it and come back for more. It is obvious they are malevolent vandals. But I ask again, why is it so importanat for you to keep up an entry that serves no purpose but to bash me? Even now it "damns me with faint praise."
Ashida Kim
- Well, if anyone posts the address of you or your friends then just post a request at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, and the information will be deleted from the article and the article history, and the offending poster probably banned. There is precedens for not allowing the posting of personal info. Thue | talk 16:02, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
I have written an article on this poem which you rightly nominated for deletion because it contained the text and nothing else. I would be grateful if you could have a look at it. Capitalistroadster 11:29, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Good work. I have been bold and removed the vfd template :). Thue | talk 18:37, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Please stop undeleting Digg in violaton of three VfUs to keep it deleted. Zoe 06:36, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
- I was undeleting it because it was speedy deleted in violation of the speedy deletion criteria; speedy deletion of recreated articles only applies to identical articles. Please also see the digg talk page for discussion. You will have to use a fourth vfd (which it is pretty clear to me will be unsuccessfull) if you want it deleted. Kristen & Ashley Script
[edit]Hej Thue. Make me an admin and I'll qualify :-) I'm a registered Mac developer that gets issued copies of new Mac OS releases in all supported languages. I have 15 years experience using them from System 7 to Mac OS 10.4, the current version. I am certain that no fonts called Kristen or Ashley Script ever shipped with the OS in any language, though whether or not the fonts exist elsewhere I do not know. Perhaps the user who created the pages installed the fonts along with a piece of software they use often, and re-installed that software whenever they installed a new OS too, thus never realising what the true origin of the fonts was. Whatever the reasons, the pages should be removed until the true existance/source of the fonts can be established. Most of the articles are simply {{font sample}} templates. Nicholas 12:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- While you are by all probability completely right, since I don't have personal knowledge in this area I would be more comfortable if you would just use 10 minuttes to list the articles at WP:AFD. Thue | talk 08:48, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Delete away. Adam 13:29, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
This image was uploaded by a new user Ps lebbo. I warned him because it didn't have any copyrith tag. Following my advice, he replaced the image in the Najwa Karam article with another one with a clear fair use. I was about to speedy delete it but since WP:CSD doesn't have a policy about that issue, I didn't do it. CG 17:20, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
helpful hint
[edit]Thanks for watching our for Ip vandals. A hint that will reduce server load on wikipedia and is very simple is to add "subst:" before the name of the template you are adding to a page. Example {{subst:test}} will insert the actual text of the {{test}} template to the page instead of just linking to the template to load the text when the page is loaded/refreshed. This is a simple thing to do that really can help wikipedia. Thanks! EdwinHJ | Talk 20:24, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks; I'll do that. Thue | talk 08:44, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Not speedy
[edit]Re Plastic Surgery in Venezuela - surprised by that decision. If you say that because there's already an AFD, I'd like to discuss it further because I have some concerns about that. If you just don't think it's a speedy candidate, I'm surprised but fair enough, that's what the AFD process is for. — ciphergoth 21:43, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- It is unrelated to already being on AFD. Speedy deletes have a fixed set of criteria, and while it is obvious that Plastic Surgery in Venezuela should be deleted, it simply doesn't match any of the criteria. So instead of letting the article hang around in CAT:CSD, I removed it. Thue | talk 08:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of my article
[edit]I wrote in the edit summary that I was the article "Craters of the Moon National Wilderness" was "in progress"...as I went to add an infobox as is standard in all the wilderness articles I create, I saw that you had speedy deleted my article. Admittedly, all I had inserted was the title, but it was hardly a standard vandalism or bogus type of article....I request you try to be more careful in the future. Thanks and see you around!--MONGO 08:28, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry, I missed the edit summary. Yes that should not have been deleted. But actually it looked like a standard form of vandalism, as many people will create articles with just the title in the context and the leave it, as a test I guess. Thue | talk 09:00, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
- No problem...you didn't do anything wrong as far as I am concerned...I should have saved more info so not to confuse anyone...see you around.--MONGO 09:05, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Melbourne garden picture
[edit]Thue - I took the Melbourne botanical garden picture, as indeed every unattributed picture that I've uploaded. (You're not the first to ask, so I provide explicit attribution on my newer photos.) Please feel free to do anything with it that you like. -- Daderot
Follow-up: thanks, I appreciate the image list as I don't know how to find those contributed images myself. I've gone through and updated all of them with my attribution. Anyway I think I got them all. Cheers. -- Daderot
Finance Ministers of Denmark
[edit]Thanks for the source, I was looking for these data. I didn't plan to save the page before completing the list and proof-reading everything, but I changed my mind half-way through. What you saw wasn't a finished page. But it looks interesting; I thought that the Council Presidents generally also held the office of Finance Minister, apparenty this was not the case. I must have been thinking of Estrup. --Valentinian 21:44, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, criteria for speedy deletion have changed recently so that cut and paste copyvios from commercial websites can be listed for speedy deletion. Here are the instructions for your reference, keep up the good work on RC partol.--nixie 11:33, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"
If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions. After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:
Blank the page and replace the text with
An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not. |
La disparition
[edit]I have undeleted La disparition. In general, redirects are not deleted unless they're causing problems (see Wikipedia:Redirect), and I can't how La disparition causes problems; it serves its function as a redirect in helping users find the actual page (you should be aware that in the French language, only the first word of titles are capitalized). That La Disparition is a redirect in no way "voids" the use of La disparition as also a redirect, as La disparition meets none of the criteria for deletion on Wikipedia:Redirect. —Lowellian (reply) 00:10, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- The reason I deleted the redirect was that if it had stayed then the link La disparition would work, which I though was a wrong title because of the missing capitals. Removing the redirect would ensure that article writers would use the correct form. Note that when using the search/go box, typing "La disparition" and pushing "go" will go to "La Disparition" if La disparition doesn't exist. The fact that the uncapitalized form is the correct one in French voids my argument, of course. Thue | talk 12:33, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. Thue | talk 09:40, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Excuse me, but what nonsense am I being accused of adding to Wikipedia? To the best of my knowledge, the one occasion on which I have altered a page was to include the possibility that a video game character could have a different first name than usually supposed. I also am not proficient in editing pages in the first place. So please, show me this nonsense, I wish to know what I have supposedly done.

Image Sources
[edit]It's not like I'm doing it on purpose. They're all just genuine mistakes GusF 16:33, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
Image:Catalan comarca Vall d'Aran.png and a large number of other similar images of Catalan comarques came originally from the Catalan Wikipedia. I tediously copied them over one by one about a year and a half ago; my comment when I uploaded it said, "from Catalan Wikipedia". I believe that they were all original work by ca:Usuari:Llull in the Catalan Wikipedia, but at the time almost no one either in the English or the Catalan Wikipedia was systematically tagging images.
I copied this particular image from ca:Imatge:Localització de la Vall d'Aran.png. That page indicates that it was, indeed, uploaded by ca:Usuari:Llull. As you can see from his home page, he is the main creator of maps of Catalonia. I strongly suggest that you contact him, rather than me, to get his assurance that he did, indeed, create the image himself, since I can only state that as a belief, but he can presumably state it as a fact. -- Jmabel | Talk 17:07, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi Thue, actually I have no sources for this. As you may have seen, I uploaded a photo of (nearly) each current Anderlecht player from the same site, all with the mention "public domain". So maybe those pictures are not welcome on wikipedia cause I don't know the policy for adding images here. Some months earlier I requested the webmaster of RSCA website to let me add those pictures on wikipedia but he didn't reply to me. As says the motto: Cum tacent consentiunt. Cheers, Julien Tuerlinckx 15:39, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- You can most definently not assume images are public domain just because somebody fails to return an email! The images may be {{fairuse}}; I strongly suggest you go change the PD license of all the footballers to fairuse instead. Thue | talk 15:47, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- I knew this but actually i put public domain as i didn't know what to select in the list. So now i know, and i will change this for every picture i uploaded as soon as i can. Thanks for the tip, Julien Tuerlinckx 15:56, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, I did modify the licensing for all those pictures I was talking about (I've put fairusein for each article), but don't you know a way to get a list of all the files I've uploaded? It would permit me to be sure I did not forget one or more pictures... Thanx, Julien Tuerlinckx 17:10, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- A list of all your edits in the image: space is here: [1]. (go to "user contributions" and select "image:" from the drop-down box) Thue | talk 17:40, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry I tagged the image as unverified, but for some reason the image description page from Commons isn't transferred to en. So that's what confused me. - ulayiti (talk) 19:08, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Processing old IFD nominations, I've deleted your userpage image. I sympathize with your position that the image doesn't make Wikipedia any less free, but the image falls under the criteria for speedy deletion and the rules are clear about that. Perhaps you could get Jimbo to amend the rule or something, but as it stood, the image was under a license we currently consider unfree. Coffee 19:19, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
The Common Connection
[edit]by peter "the sheriff" yoon
This resource, which the global community has contributed its fine efforts to, proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that regardless of all the strife and conflicts in the world, common individuals pursuing uncommon interests can reach a peaceful accord and get together peacefully for the betterment of the entire species so that eventually we'll all evolve into bigger, better people.
