Main page appearance: Royal National College for the Blind

This is a note to let the main editors of Royal National College for the Blind know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on October 19, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 19, 2011. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Royal National College for the Blind

The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) is a co-educational residential college of further education based in the English city of Hereford. Students who attend the college are blind or partially sighted. Alongside regular further education subjects and vocational training, the college offers training in independent living and personal development. Founded in 1871 in London as The Royal Normal College and Academy for the Blind, the college had a number of homes before moving to its campus in Hereford, and was renamed Royal National College for the Blind in the late 1970s. It has been a pioneer in the education of visually impaired people in Britain since the Victorian era, and, as of 2010, is the only college for visually impaired students in the United Kingdom to have been awarded Beacon Status in recognition of its outstanding teaching and learning. The college is actively involved in the development of assistive technology to help visually impaired people in their day to day lives. The campus, located on College Road, Hereford, is home to RNC's teaching, residential and leisure facilities. Students live in halls of residence or on-campus houses which enable them to gain a level of independence within the college environment. (more...)

Merge proposal

Someone just created a new Jo Stafford album page for the original Columbia album Swingin' Down Broadway. I've asked for a merger because the Jo + Broadway from Corinthian is identical to the earlier album in all but the record company and album cover. The Jo + Broadway has been around here since April 2011. While I believe we can merge the two, I don't believe we can keep both album covers. Will take me a bit to get used to your name change. :-) We hope (talk) 00:58, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I hope you'll say something when we can buy the book at Amazon! Have you ever thought about doing a book on Jo Stafford? Everyone else, male and female, seems to have at least one bio in print, but not Jo. With what we have here and some help from the Stafford/Weston archives (and possibly from the kids via Corinthian), I think you have quite a few sources to draw from.
Re: merging, I think the easiest way to do it would be to merge segments of the newer page into the older one and then move the newly merged page to Swingin' Down Broadway, turning Jo + Broadway into a redirect and keeping the Swingin' Down Broadway album cover. Someone did something like this with Joyful Season recently and the only easy way to straighten things out with what had been done was to put everything back as it was and turn The Joyful Season into a redirect. We hope (talk) 17:30, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Stafford discography

And when you're ready, I'll go back to getting covers for the ones being restored. When RL takes us away from here, it's always good to know that it was for a happy reason! If my bunch comes in from Canada, I'll be AWOL also.;-) Know I need and want to get back to adding information to Jo's and others' pages, but have been trying to do as much as possible with getting various free use photos. My list of those available seems to get longer even though I'm working at it steadily. You just find more photos that are free use and can be used somewhere here and think it's a shame not to do it. We hope (talk) 15:03, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Give me a few minutes to switch gears and I'll start getting album covers up. We hope (talk) 17:43, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Did the links on the template--am now off to get back some covers! We hope (talk) 18:03, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Have covers on everything that's back as a free-standing article. We hope (talk) 19:33, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Good thing it was as easy as removing the redirects. Think I counted re-adding 18 covers. That was a lot of articles that previously had to be merged into the list. We hope (talk) 20:11, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Merge done

Merged the two album pages Swingin' Down Broadway and Jo + Broadway; they are now both at the Swingin' Down Broadway page with a redirect for Jo + Broadway. Kept the older Columbia album cover, but had to let go of the Jo + Broadway one as there would have been two on the article. We hope (talk) 02:11, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Paul,

I notice that you have made edits to the RedTube Wiki entry. I'm working on a project that is in need of a specific design element/aspect of the OLD RedTube logo (the one that looks like a warped TV screen with the girl in it).

Do you by any chance have a copy of that old logo or know of a tool on the net (a "Wayback machine") that can find old webpages/web images ?

ANY help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bill Ford cabeachguy_94037@yahoo.com 98.87.24.209 (talk) 15:39, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Bill. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of that one, but I think a wayback machine is probably the best place to find it. We actually have a Wayback Machine article so that could point you in the right direction. You could also try Googling RedTube and looking through Google Images, which sometimes helps in locating old images. I'm afraid I don't generally work on pornography-related articles, but have done from time to time if they're related to another topic. I can't actually remember why I worked on this particular article now as it's been a couple of years since I did so, but I notice there's a WikiProject Pornography so somewhone there might be able to help, or you could ask at our REFDESK which I sometimes do when I need to find something out. Cheers and good luck Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

alt text

Hi there,

I've arrived on your talk page from Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Accessibility - I've just added alt-text to the images at Augmentative_and_alternative_communication, but it's my first time adding alt-text and I've no idea if I'm getting it right - as you've posted at the accessibility project I thought I might ask you for some feedback. Would you mind awfully if you had a quick look at the article's alt-texts and gave it a yay or neigh?

Cheers,

A favour

I do link to foreign wikis when there is no english page until they have been created as you did on Death in Paradise. Could you create a page for Michael Culkin from Garrows Law as he needs one by now. Thankyou. PS I also do ITC shows and have been wading through them for sometime adding titlecards and episode guides and see you listed as a particpant.

Hi. In Seema Malhotra, you recently added links to the disambiguation pages West Midlands and Ian Austin (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
